Spa Castle in trouble again

From the Times Ledger:

A controversial spa in College Point is in trouble once again.

State Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) received a letter from the New York State Department of Labor informing him that Spa Castle, located at 31-10 11th Ave., had been fined $1,000 for violating the Child Labor Statute.

Labor Department Commissioner Roberta Reardon wrote to Avella Jan. 30 about an investigation that was completed in December 2017.

According to Reardon, investigators visited Spa Castle on various occasions and times looking for violations of state laws. “After meticulous review of Spa Castle’s wage and hour records, we substantiated a violation of Article 4, the Child Labor Statute,” she told the senator in the letter.

The statute bans minors from working late hours on school nights.

Reardon said the spa was served a notice of violation on Nov. 4 with a penalty of $1,000, which they paid in full. The investigators were not able to substantiate any allegations regarding overtime.

Forget Condos. tear that slum down and build a parking lot. it would certainly increase the quality of life better than this place does.

Seriously? A $1,000 fine. The owners are probably laughing at that.

$1K is rolled up in the Owner's pocket.

Hey Dumbasio, I have a great idea, how about turning this "castle" into a homeless shelter?

"Seriously? A $1,000 fine."

The price of doing bidness in the Asian Spa community. How much are they paying off the local Asian politicians, police and community leaders? And they run $$$ ads in the local shit supermarket throw-away papers and if they don't a story will appear like this one. Blackmail??? Nah.

Hey everybody- I post a lot on here and get the whole Queens Crap thing, hate the bike lanes, hate deBozo, I'm one of you you might say, but I've been going to Spa Castle for like 10 years and it's actually a worthwhile place- very relaxing way to spend a few hours, authentic cuisine, I could see how from an outside view people might see the place in a negative light, but go give it a try, the first floor is the most relaxing with hot and cold treatment, give it a shot

Child labor violations...at this place...Isn't this the same place that got in trouble for promoting prostitution. It's a well known hookup spot for gays

More like child prostitution. If they were fined for child labor, did they make the child pay the fine by working more unpaid hours?

Once I heard my urban coworkers crowing about Castle Spa I was so glad, so happy. That was it. I have all the information I need about Castle Spa and I will never ever spend one penny going there. Even if it was free I would not go there.

Turn it into a neighborhood prison for all the criminals in Rikers.

I've gone to Spa Castle many times. Many people go to bath houses/saunas to relax. It is not has common in American culture but it is in the rest of the world

Oh, the horror!

Sure this place should be busted for underage workers, prostitution and if I am not mistaken, didn't a young child die there, but come on folks, why do some of you get so damn upity about this place. I know people who went there and liked it alot for relaxing just like the one comment stated. And so what if there is a section when you are nude, damn some of you are the typical puritan mind set. Many places in Europe and other countries have spas like this when you disrobe. Man, some of you are like so closed minded about stuff. And the last damn thing we need are more fucking condos.

Hey again, I posted on Monday in defense of the place and I'm glad to see there are other fans out there. The child labor story was for having 17 year olds work longer hours than allowed on school nights, not a huge deal, hence the low 1k fine. I think some people on here are equating it to having some 10 year old Korean kid doing foot massages, trust me, nothing like that happens there! In fact, I recommend going and getting a traditional Korean body scrub followed by a shiatsu massage, it's heavenly!

Spas are great, this one just needs better management to control some of their issues, they also need to get up the health department codes...in terms of the nudity, well that's what happens at a Korean style spa, this place deserves a chance, it just needs better management...also the shenanigans that go on there are not initiated by the staff, but the clientele. Hopefully they can get their act together there, because they have a target on their back.
