College Point street is flooded 24/7

From the Times Ledger:

State Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) joined residents of Powells Cove Boulevard last Friday to call on the city to finally address a major flooding condition that residents say has plagued the community for over 20 years.

Avella and residents stood on the corner of Powells Cove Blvd. and 126th St. around a large pool of water that amassed from rainfall earlier in the week that had frozen over and showed no signs of going away.

According to residents who have dealt with this issue for years, they expect the floodwaters to stay there well into spring. Avella said he has been working with residents for the last two years to bring the issue to the attention to different city agencies.

Avella said the location has been inspected by multiple city agencies, including the Department of Transportation, which blamed the flooding on a lack of storm sewers at the location, and claimed that the Department of Environmental Protection must address that before DOT can address the road issues.

Over the summer, Avella brought the issues up to the DEP, which said it would open a 90-day investigation of the location — but to this date, neither he nor the residents have heard what that investigation concluded.

What is the elevation at College Point-- 3 feet above MSL? Somewhat higher? Look to Jamaica Bay and Broad Channel as the future. Regular flooding and inundation, followed by some dry periods. There is no way to fix this long term. The water is rising every year.

I think pointing at it will make it go away.

Unfortunately....another Avella press conference that leads to little results. Thank you anyway, Tony. Too often, photo ops are becoming background white noise.

I remember being about 10 years old riding my bike through that corner and the water back then and thinking it was ridiculous. Im 28 now and I still can't believe its not fixed.

I think 3rd world countries have better infrastructure than we do at this point.

^2nd Anon: you got a guffaw out of me, lol...very funny :V

^1st Anon: NYC is gonna flood at some point given the inexorable nature of climate change and our shrinking icecaps. Sucks to be out on the water-front, but you get what you deserve if you're dumb enough to buy and move into that...even devs know this, they're putting machinery on the 3rd story and up now.

Resident: Mr. Politician, there is water coming up from the ground on the street.
Politician: Okay, Tell me where it is so I can take a photo of me pointing at it.

Isn't most of College Point built on what was once marsh land? There's no way to fix this, the ground is and always will be saturated. Avella knows this and so does everybody else. He'd be better off just just giving the middle finger to the community and telling them they're a bunch of assholes for buying property there, it cannot be fixed and never will be.

Avella has been pointing for his whole, politically failed life. Twenty years has passed and all that useless shithead can do is point? Why don't any of his 'SHEEPLE' constituents 'point' this cradle-to-grave government hack to the unemployment line?

Phony Tony....powerless as usual.
He has no real political power. He's a capon!

Isn't most of Queens former swamp land?

What special training (besides a lifetime crime spree of criminal sociopathy!) does it take to wait 20 years, point to the willfully ignored problem, pass go, collect and retreat? Why don't any of his 'SHEEPLE' constituents 'point' this cradle-to-grave government hack to the unemployment line?

Avella is just hanging onto his lucrative spot. When he retires....doesn't he get TWO pensions....one from NYC and another from
NYS! Nice deal....Huh?
Avella is a pistol loaded with blanks! No effect! I thought that scurvy John Liu was the king of the photo ops.

Could he just be a "Relief Valve" for unhappy Queens residents ?
Or did Tony lose something off his fastball ?

Ahhh Avella looking busy doing nothing at all
