Francis Lewis tree massacre

"Why are old growth city owned curb trees being cut down near Francis Lewis & Crocheron?
Those trees are big...must have been there since the 1950s!
Couldn't they have just trimmed them?" - The Flushing Phantom

Too close to the businesses.

Too close to traffic, pedestrian and vehicular.

Too large to stay.

Had to go. Plant a nice small tree in its place.

I think that I shall never see a thing as lovely as a tree. Except the 150'-200'trees that crush the homes on my street and kill the residents, when they fall.Sorry but truth is the truth !

Parks & rec. just keep giving residents lip service ,while we shudder in the cellar ,when 50-70 mph winds are howling past us. A new tree can not kill us.

There are better tree options now. Some trees are just too large and cause damage to the sidewalks with their roots and damage homes and property when they fall.

Paul Vallone wants the neighborhood to be bald with no growth like his head.

Those were a deep rooted variety of Oak, goombah. If you Italians, Greeks and Asians do not like trees, then move to some concrete jungle somewhere. There was NO DANGER. Of these trees falling. But there is a big danger of skin cancer for those goombahs who cut down shade trees. Melanoma on the rise! Enjoy the strong sun with a depleted ozone layer. Sloan Kettering loves you!

The nicest houses in whitestone are the ones with paved over driveways, trees cut down, and LOTS OF STUCCO.

Has anyone contacted NYC to see if this massacre was authorized or some chitrool decided to break the law on his own?
If this was an illegal tree removal, then fine the bastard heavily! Make him plant dozens of trees to make up for the killing.
THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THOSE TREES! Maybe councilman Vallone twisted somebody's arm to get these trees butchered in return for a big fat campaign contribution! That's the way things work when a mafioso represents you!

Paul Vallone is so concerned about the environment that he voted in favor of the 5 cent fee on supermarket bags yet he is not concerned about the raping and destruction of local trees.

He is such a horses ass.

The trees are being removed to make room for more people to dump their garbage.

oh look, more complete bullshit with no proof whatsoever.

Does the local councilman oversee all executive agency actions in his area? Is that really how the city government works?

Not snark. Serious questions. Enlighten.

"Couldn't they have just trimmed them?"

Looks like the answer is "no".

Government at its finest...

I'm not an arborist, or whatever a tree expert is, but from that pic of that tree carcass it looked kind of healthy.

Frankly, I have seen hundreds of trees that are in worse shape in SE Queens. A lot of them don't even have bark on them.

Just the size alone made it unsafe. In a few years some unexpected storm would come by and a branch would fall on a car or some toddler and we would all complain that the Parks Department dropped the ball.

It had to go. The armchair arborists remind me of people who say, when a gun or knife wielding suspect is shot by the police, says 'why didn't they just shoot the gun out of his hand', or 'why didn't they just shoot him in the shoulder?'. You see that most recently with that gorilla in Cincinatti. 'He was protecting that child'. Nonsense.

With the City there is no logic..they probably had no money for tree trimming but excess for removal!!

Anonymous said...

Are people here really advocating for chopping down all old trees on the off chance one might fall on someone?

Anonymous said...

"The trees had to go"

Meritless, baseless nonsense. If tree limbs are such an I'm pending threat then how about vehicle accidents on Franny Lew.

Do the cars have to go?

Sounds like some of Vallone trolls are posting.

More. bullshit...eh?
Plenty of bullshit from Valloney baloney stooges covering Don Paulo's crooked ass for him.
Finnocchio mafioso!

Franny Lew...goombahville!

If the wiseguys cut down those trees without authorization, who has the balls to confront them and risk losing theirs?

Anonymous said...

I don not believe that "Dom's" tree service is a city authorized arborist.
Prove me wrong.
Is someone going to report this? Or is it to be the code of silence?

Hey, Don Chooch Vallone ...you or one of your stooges must be reading this.
Can we expect any action regarding this tree massacre?
Or Di you feel that it is none of your business, as is the usual case of you sitting with your thumb up your ass?

YOU are the one who sounds like an "ARMCHAIR ARBORIST"!
If you do not like trees, then move! See a doc to treat your falling limb paranoia.
Take some Xanax.

Twenty years ago, the citY refused to attend to a dangerously compromised tree frint of my homeI said it could fall on a child walking to PS,32.
They fimallY attended to the tree by removing the iminant danger.
It took years.
The trees on Francis Lewis blvd were perfectly healthy. Shame.

They have also cut down all those huge beautiful trees by Garden World, just recently. Does anyone know why? They all looked healthy. So depressing. BTW, whoever posted above about 'goombas' not wanting trees, this 'goomba' loves them and would plant a tree in front of every single house if it were up to me.
