DOB says problem is resolved...but it's not

"Spotted this piece of Queens Crap today while driving in Bayside. Maybe the DOB will shift some building inspectors back to Queens if more people make 311 complaints about all the illegal parking going on in Northern Queens." - anonymous

The owner got banged for this in 2006. And got it "resolved" in 2011.

So much for that.

Time to open up a new complaint on this jerk!!

The system isn't working.
Once the damage is done and maybeeeee the fine is paid the illegal work stays.

Isn't this Paul Vallone's district? How come Il Duommo Di Chromo can't be found? Oops, I forgot....his duties as a St. Andrew's soccer coach supersedes his responsibilities as a city council member. Don eh Vallone eh no ee homa. Calla back eh tomorrow.

Those uppity Bayside prigs can now enjoy a taste of Flushing. For years they thought that their shit was ice cream.

The "uppity-ness" of those Bayside prigs is just jealousy on your part because you probably can't afford a home there. And Bayside is not exactly Westchester or the Hamptons so there's no reason for this constant sniping between eastern and western Queens. People move to areas they like and can afford, period.

I'm not uppity at all and I was born and raised in Bayside. Bayside was no walk in the park growing up. Although I had fun growing up there, We had our fair share of crap going down, however, it was swept under the rug to keep up the value of the neighborhood for so many years. When I was growing up, the people who lived down the block from me were drug dealers in and out of jail. The spanish people who lived up the block from me had a fight and one guy got stabbed with a butcher knife. There were dog fights and drugs being sold in the park late at night, my father had his car stolen, my neighbors houses have been broken into....so no Bayside is no stranger to crime. It quieted down a few years back but now its starting to become like crap again but this time a different kind of crap.

if I wanted to make a complaint on this house, where on 311 would I go ?

Here is where to report illegal curb cut/illegal driveway:

https://www1.nyc.gov/apps/311universalintake/form.htm?serviceName=DOB+Curb+Cut+Driveway+Illegal

You can also call DOB to report illegal parking pads as well.

it's not an illegal curb cut, it's an illegally paved yard.

if you request an inspection for the wrong thing they can go out there and say "no illegal curb cut" and move on, or they can notice the obviously illegally paved yard and write it up. but to do that they have to close the first complaint and open a new one... triple the paperwork...

call 311, the whole process takes 10 minutes

Where was he supposed to park? On the street? Like a common peasant?

I am not sure I agree with putting this guys name and address on the site. It isn't his fault the city let him get away with it.

The picture is ok, but I would cover the name.

I see more and more of these illegal parking cement slabs and curb cuts all over Queens. What's going on ?

I have been reading this blog for a while now and I thank you for your insight regarding the community. However, I agree with a previous poster regarding the disclosure of the persons name, There are surely larger issues at hand that require attention.

Anonymous said...

Disagree. These are public records and the asshole is still breaking the zoning code.

According to the city that guy was in the clear.

You can look it up yourself. It is another thing to post it on a blog.

Remember when they posted the home address of the cop who shot Michael Brown in Ferguson?

I have mixed thoughts about this. This looks like shit but at least there are 3 fewer cars on the street taking up precious parking spots.

Why disclose the persons name ?
Because public records are public for a very good reason.
It helps us watch how our government treats public safety and there many other good reasons to make it accessible to us.

Actually, he's not in the clear. He submitted a certificate that DOB accepted at face value, but is obviously false. I'd say he has a lot of explaining to do.

Crappy we both know that all that's gonna happen is DOB will follow up on the complaint, issue a new ECB fine, he'll pay it, file a BS certification again and that'll be that. Maybe the process repeats maybe not.

You do a valuable service here, don't tilt at windmills... I'm sure a new complaint was already logged and by the time he pays the fine and files another BS cert of correction everyone will be on to the next guy. ECB would rather deal with this low hanging fruit because they would rather pocket an easy $500 twice a year than chase after fines that will never get paid. He won't have to explain shit as long as he pays on time.

Jealous? I think not. I could have afforded a home in Bayside. I chose not to. It's too far from the real city (in distance and mentality)...Manhattan. I' m only 20 minutes by rail mfrom the big apple. Uh, my home has a conservative market value of 1.4 million dollars. Where do hang your hat?

Anonymous said...

I bet you that the Greek that owns this house probably rents out to asians!!

Anonymous said...

So which of those cars belongs to you, posters who think the homeowner's name shouldn't be included?

You do the crime, own it.

TAN REALTY 214 LLC now is listed as the Respondent not Theodore Anagnostopoulos. There are 12 units listed on the property records and I wonder if the (land lord) owner charges more $ for the illegal parking spots ? IRS reward anyone ?

FWIW, Tan Realty and Ted Anagnostopoulos are the same person. He is also the owner of Pete's Pizza on Bell Blvd. and has his office above the pizza place.
