From NJ, but relevant:
From Eyewitness News:
A dream home became a nightmare in Florham Park, New Jersey.
When the homeowner was handed over the keys he suddenly learned his new home was sinking, cracking, and crumbling.
"I spent all the money I had and I was cleaned out. I have nothing now," said Humayun Akhtar. He thought he was building his wife the home of her dreams, a gleaming palace where they'd live together.
But nearly a decade later, they've never spent a night here.
"Look at this, won't even close," he said at the bathroom door.
Weeks after closing, the cracks started to form, and he soon found he'd sunk his life savings into a house that was sinking into the ground.

This would never happen in Queens. Never.
This will never happen to all of the new towers in LIC, I just know it.
i've seen this in a new home out west one time. some small time builder thought they could make some money back in the bubble and didn't build the right way.
i would only buy a new home from a big national builder or buy a home a few years old so you can see what is wrong with it before you buy
Dream house in NJ? What were they thinking!!
Big national builders are no guarantee for quality. Toll Brothers, for example were known for quality and customer service issues.
It's probably still built better than the crap in his motherland.
File under immigrant on immigrant crime because undoubtedly he hired a fellow landsman as builder. If not, then it was an immigrant of another stripe who promised a bargain build. The so called bargain turned to crap very quickly. To add insult to injury he has been paying property taxes too for a decade
"his will never happen to all of the new towers in LIC, I just know it."
No, they won't, because they are built out of concrete and steel, not wood and mill sweepings (particle board).
Wouldn't you make sure the builder was insured?
All of the comments here are making uneducated and ignorant assumption.. oh he hired an immigrant, dream house in NJ, better crap in his motherland. That show how ignorant and racist america or queen still is. So disappointed. I'm white btw.
It can happen to anyone including those fools who said those shyt in all the comments above this.
The only comment that is consider smart and educational is this
"i would only buy a new home from a big national builder or buy a home a few years old so you can see what is wrong with it before you buy".
But even a national builder will mess up. So it's better off buying a house that was build in the past like 80s or so.. when the construction material was of high quality.
