Quinn working on Walmart deal

From the Daily News:

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn - a leading opponent of Walmart's efforts to open in New York - is working on a deal where the chain would agree to buy Hunts Point market produce for any city stores it opens.

The negotiations, first reported by Crain's New York Business, could smooth the way for the retail giant, which is eying an East New York site for its first city store but hopes to eventually have several spots in the five boroughs.

Quinn said Walmart has offered to buy 5% of its produce from the Hunts Point market, but she's pushing for a bigger chunk.

Walmart should have opened a store in Flushing in the former Caldor's site.

Instead you've got another exclusionary Asian mall catering to their own and indifferent toward the round eyes.

Why is Christine Quinn supporting Walmart ? Doesn't she know that the company is suspected of wholesale discrimination against women ? Will Deputy Mayor Quinn just keep on selling people down the river, just to keep rewarding developers ?

"which is eying an East New York site for its first city "

Nice. You can get all your shopping needs there, PLUS quadruple shootings everytime you need to shop.

Quinn is just demonstrating to the nation on how ridiculous barriers to the NYC market to blackmail Co to prevent them from opening in NYC.

Was Target forced to do certain things prior to getting approval to opening in NYC? These businesses want to do business here - let them! They provide PT jobs and have low prices - we are tired of paying bodega prices! We want Costco and big box chains instead of Prada and Harry Winston - let the rich travel to NJ to shop at these places - we need stores that cater to every day low price. Why are we preventing them to open here? Who is Ms Quinn anyway, a bully girl is represents a district of wayward characters whom are far from mainstream residents? Let her address her own constituents needs such as bullwhips and like price controls so that their needs remain affordable. Hail hail, the Village voice Ms Quinn.

Looks like Quinn is strong arming Walmart to buy from her cronies. But lest we proles forget, a well-regulated society is good for us (regulated for "life", YIPPIE!) as our Masters tell us.

A whole 5%? Whoop-de-do

Why can't she mind her own business and let them open and create jobs? Aren't there more pressing problems in this city that she can attend to? She doesn't have to shop there is she doesn't want to God help us if she ever becomes mayor

When the Matinecocks lived in Queens several hundred years ago, they didn't need some big anti-union corporation from the south to come here and "create jobs". The pathetic boot-licking Archie Bunker morons replying here actually repeat this corporate pablum about the great capitalist masters "creating jobs". Pathetic.

It's only ok to scream about creating jobs when they are union jobs or when black people are doing the screaming.

"It's only ok to scream about creating jobs when they are union jobs." Yes, why not? Hey here's a question - how do the Wal-Mart employees usually get medical coverage? Answer - they usually hit up the state and city coverage, since Wal-Mart with its billions won't pay for it. Plus those huge tax breaks Wal-Mart always asks for from governments. Wal-Mart won't create jobs either - it will probably put more local merchants out of business and workers out of their jobs than it will "create jobs" quote-unquote. The jobs being minimum wage ones where the employees will be hitting up the city and state for health coverage. Also, people are over-doing it a lot on the low prices thing. It is true Wal-Mart has the cheapest prices for some things - say the cheapest, crappiest, smallest 10 BTU air conditioner out there, or something like that. But it is not the paradise of super low prices for everything that some people make it out to be. You can get good prices on a few things, for most stuff it is like any Target or whatever.

Sure she has to shop there !
Its the few places that carry womans size 26 and up.

It crazy, your going to have 50+ smoke blowing junky 18 wheelers a day plowing through residential streets not made for it.

BTW Fat chance of getting hired at Walmart you if you cant speak Spanish.
Going into Walmart is like being in a 3rd word country.

Why bar Walmart?

Don't we support a free market economy or are we communists?

I can buy the same shitty Chinese imports from Walmart at very substantially reduced prices.

Federated department stores (i.e. Bloomingdales, etc.) sell the same Asian shit for extremely higher markups.

Look Ms Bully girl = Ms 5% is the very worst example of who is elected telling us what to do? So when her storm-troopers fan out and start telling us who will be let into the city to do business and who cannot - it's time to call a spade a spade.

First off Mr Quinn - you are absolutely not a city wide elected official, don't tell me in Elemhurst who can do business here - it just not going to happen - you can get your constituent's jollies a big thrill by doing so in your neck of the jungle but not mine.

Second of all - fascism is not tolerated by us - we want what we want, buy from whom we want and if that business want and legally can set up shop any where in NYC where they meet the codes and local residents welcome them - so be it - like or not by me or you it's a free capitalistic society - they can do business here.

Back to Ms 5% - Fortunately Ms 5% we are not in the Tammany Hall era nor is Boss Tweed welcomed here. Don't think of going to this model we will not tolerate your breaking knee cap tactics for your 5% tolls. This tactic will only serve to stop the much need growth our city needs to pay for all of Ms 5% liberal party benefits to those taking handouts and illegals - that she is vote cultivating.

Remember she has voted for Bloomberg's extension of term limits to suit her own extension - what irony that this individual is telling us what to do - the people in her district ought to get some backbone to vote in real govt manager versus discriminatory activist with a singular viewpoint. Those days are over - serve all the people's interests or get out out of government.

@Anon #20.

Sorry but fascism IS tolerated by new york state residents. Especially by NYC residents. This state has in fact been ranked as the least free state by a recent study which was of no surprise to me. In a fascist society govt controls all public utilities and private industries. The way the MTA is governed and how their board members are recommended by the NY governor and 3 recommended by they mayor and voted in the state senate makes this a semi fascist state. It also makes it almost impossible to start a business here. Things are not going to change because of the liberal entitlement mentality of NY'ers. Not until the same garbage we elect over and over dies in office.

How much of a kickback will Christine Quinn receive in return from Hunts Point?
