Prisoners getting away with something other than murder

From Fox 5:

Prisoners have ripped taxpayers out of $123 million through phony tax refunds they applied for from their cells.

Sens. Charles Schumer of New York, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Bill Nelson of Florida say the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Internal Revenue Service need to immediately comply with a 2008 law aimed at stopping the practice.

The Senators claim the Bureau of Prisons and IRS are failing to comply with a 2008 law.

Spokeswomen for the agencies say they are working to end the practice. But the IRS says congressional action is needed to require prisons to report their tax status to the Bureau of Prisons.

A recent Treasury Department report claims the number of prisoners who file false tax returns has more than doubled in the past five years.

No problem. When they catch them, they can get them a convenient new government job--working a chain gang.
