Justice is served
From the NY Post:
A former correction officer who was facing up to 25 years in prison for shooting two men outside of a Queens bowling alley was acquitted of double attempted murder and assault charges.
“His defense was one of self-defense,” said Michael Iavecchio’s trial attorney, Stephen Worth, after a jury cleared his client of all charges on Monday night.
Iavecchio, 55, was working as a security guard at the AMF bowling alley on 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights on Feb. 6, 2010 when he asked Justin Donaghy and Gerard Hourigan to leave the building.
“There was a videotape of the crime which showed the two men attacking him one at a time,” said Worth, who proved that Iavecchio’s actions were justified because, “He was worried they would overpower him and take the gun.”

Has this world ever gone to seed! Never thought you'd need security guards in a bowling alley. WWLS(what would Lemongello say?)
Bravo - self-defense is survival - what should we do - stand there and die for God sakes!
Good News!
It always looked to me like the kind of place where Bobby and Peggy Sue would go to meet the gang for their Friday night bowling and milk shake after the sock hop. Sadly, as a lifelong Western Queens resident, I am painfully aware that the crowd has DRASTICALLY changed over the last few decades. Apparently, the "gang" still meets there, the WRONG kind of gang.
The "victims" were Gerard Hourigan and Justin Donaghy, both 29, who decided they would not leave as asked, and would put Michael Iavecchio, 54, in the hospital or the morgue.Coverage of the story in Belfast, Northern Ireland
This is a good bowling Alley one of the few left in Queens lately. It's off the beaten track and that's a problem at night especially on weekend evenings where it is open late and all sorts visit this place and make it their own.
This establishment has the good sense to hire security to protect their patronsand it will now be hard pressed to attract security folks to work here because of this incident.
I knew Iavecchio from the job years ago and contrary to many comments I can say that he never was good with his hands and had a reputation as a sneak. He couldn't fight his way out of a beauty parlor so dealing with 2 young men was just too much of a challenge for him.
