From Forest Hills Patch:
Brownfields, the term used by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), are any real property where redevelopment could be complicated by the presence of potentially hazardous material. In other words, a brownfield property is a blighted abandoned zone in community. These properties, which are prevalent in New York City, constitute wasted space that can and should undergo transformative redevelopment for the benefit of our communities.
Currently, the New York City Brownfield Cleanup Program is able to provide liability protections for developers that comply with the shared city and state cleanup regulations through an existing Memorandum of Agreement with the DEC. However, the city can not provide full state liability release. I have introduced legislation that will allow the New York City Office of Environmental Remediation to provide full liability protections to developers in the program.

So, the Goombahs (former capo di tutti cappi/guv) Mario...figlio, Andy (current capo di tutti cappi/guv)...
and the future offspring of la famiglia di Cuomo have guaranteed jobs somewhere in the system.
They've backed mafioso developers and these mafiosi state pols get their cut.
Very nice!
I'd like to have a dozen such "godfathers" covering my ass.
This sounds like taxpayers will be left holding the bag for developers who take short-cuts and are long gone after it's been determined the property is harming people's health by living or working on these properties.
All this does is a give away to developers to turn these unwanted lands into gold. There are plenty of development plots that are awaiting cash to complete projects - so why do a give-a-way on brown fields now?
Wow, Queens can be proud that once again our hacks have made history that places our fair borough front and center as the place for developers while our communities rot around us.
This hack, this son of a hack convict - who was another bright light that briefly rose from the cesspool that rules over us - has decided that his time is best served by aiding developers and screwing his constituents - who will likely reelect him anyway.
This is a significant bill people, because building on these brownfields will give rise to cancers and all sorts of nasty illnesses.
And you, dear taxpayer, not the developer (who already enjoys your taxes, tax breaks given by your representative - who in all likelyhood ignores you besides lip service and photo ops), is getting off scot free - as they abuse your community - something never covered by the media.
Once again, the 99% get f*k by the political elite from the machine.
Andy Cuomo (no doubt) approves of Andy Hevesi's move.
That Cuomo dynasty needs busting up!
Albany continues its crooked upstate ops out of public view in the boonies.
Sounds like the Developers have got you covered at the taxpayers expense, Andy! Like father like son.
okkkaayyy
.... anyone from his district ready to ask him about this at his next public appearance - or write a letter to the press ....
or are we simply to bitch and grumble about the obvious, forget about it by next Thursday, and reelect him?

This is what passes for press in our fair boro.
Memo to Matty: making a developer rich by building on a brown field does not benefit communities unless you start to call places Lefrak City, Pistilliville, and Rock Roseianna.
Make no mistake this is all about the Trump site that is in Whitestone that was "remediated"
Memo to Memo to Matty guy:
This is a column by the Assemblyman that was posted on Patch. Not written by Matt. You can't tell the difference? How stupid are you?
Maybe next week we should go over shapes and colors.
What actually passes for press in our fair borough are a handful of papers that aren't the greatest by any means but are a hell of a lot better than you anonymous twits give them credit for. Note that unlike you, Matt puts his name and face out there. That's just one trademark of real media.
Did you ever see the SNL sketch on anonymous online posters? Or just inspire it?

When "Honest Joe" Crowley opens up the deliberations of the Machine to cameras our names will go on this block.
He and the 'bhoys' are secret so others will be too. You don't like a difference of opinion, go to N Korea.
As to the young man that runs that paper who has been in this borough but a few years, a simple review of his articles shows a pattern of behavior to our public servants.
Editors of real newspapers that fight for the public I respect. Touts for hacks I don't.
This is an outrage that the hack is proposing and it should be reflected by any responsible citizen.
Difference of opinion is great. Don't give me that North Korea crap. Constantly saying all members of every media outlet in Queens are hacking for the Democrats is just incorrect. Trib, yes. Not all.
And yes, one of the things that distinguishes a newspaper or other outlet (Patch is not a paper as your comrade in arms says) is that the writers are out there in the public. You throw all your verbal stones and hide. They have to deal with the repercussions — freeze outs, libel suits etc... Just one of the things that some of the regular posters here seem to have no concept of.
But, you do your thing, the media do their thing, and maybe one day the voters will do their thing and actually get rid of the scum. If not, it's hardly because Matt Hampton posted Andrew Hevesi's opinion on his website.
What's that about not liking differing opinions and going to North Korea? You seem to think Hevesi's opinion shouldn't see the light of day. Would it be better if he just got his bill through the Assembly without your hearing what it was about?
Merry Christmas.
