Return to the Elmhurst Half-House

I got this in the e-mail recently, with the question, "Where's the rest of the house on the left?"

So I thought I would explain to those of you who don't go back to the beginnings of this site that this very house was one of the inspirations for Queens Crap. Because even the most oblivious of us can't walk past this spot and not come to the realization that the borough's gone to hell.

And it figures that it's a Frank Lloyd Crap design.

I've lived in Elmhurst for ovedr 40 years and have seen a lot of changes. Some were good (very few though) but recently, they're horrendous. This was one of the worst! I don't know how any right minded builder/architect/owner would think this was a good design. It was just greed! I hope the civic groups and politicians who oversee Elmhurst get more involved to prevent these atrocities from happening.

"Half-witted" builder!

While I differ with you on some other matters, Crappy, I'm usually with you on crap condos and overdevelopment.

But the house on the left is no winner, either, and I can't imagine it'd be much better as a double-wide. With a second floor, perhaps it could be salvaged. But at one story, the proportions are all wrong.

Don't know what you mean...the house on the left has 3 floors.

The house on the left looks like one of the orginal homes in Elmhurst.

It was a beautiful development which large homes. Not much different than Prospect Park South.

Like Ravenswood and Old Astoria, yet another community destroyed in Queens from poor planning.

Ohhhh... now I see why it's a "half house." Perspective was playing tricks with me, and the top two floors looked like they belonged to the next lot over.

Seeing things properly now, the first floor is still a dissonant mystery to me.

Why? There were many houses built in that style in the early 20th century.

Just a guess, but I think the projecting first floor - an enclosed front porch? - is a later addition.

Does anyone have a more precise address for the half-house? I'd like to get a closer look at it. Also, there is another similar half-house in LIC.
