Housing slump affects Gary's bottom line

The curious have gone to open house at Rep. Gary Ackerman’s $1.3 million 1935 English Tudor home in Queens’ tony Jamaica Estates. Having bought the place 20 years ago from a Republican judge, the Democrat lawmaker and his wife, Rita, a clinical social worker, will join the empty nesters trend, looking for smaller quarters after seeing their three children off.

Congressman's having problems selling his house, too

The couple could have sold their four-bedroom house for a lot more during the height of the market, but shucks -- Ackerman wasn’t sure his youngest, Ari, didn’t need to fly back into the four-bedroom home. This has left the 13-term congressman in the same position as Joe Schmoe house seller, lowering his price -- by a fifth of a million bucks in this case -- because his home’s been on the market for more than three months.

Check out that kitchen and its appliances! He bought it 20 years ago and left that crap kitchen that was probably last renovated in 1968?! No wonder he can't sell it!

Imagine what the other rooms (with no photos) look like....

The majority of the people buying in Jamaica Estates could not care less about the kitchen. The house will be demolished, and a pink palace built in its place. Due to the fact that it is one major group which now has a stronghold on the neighborhood in terms of home ownership, prices will continue to go down, until they are low enough to suit these buyers. Very few people who would actually want to live in the houses they buy will ever get to buy in Jamaica Estates. Real Estate there is being pretty well steered.

Hell......
I'd call on an exorcist, a feng shui expert
and a native medicine man.

That whole place has got to be smudged
and prayed over before I'd set foot in it!

Didn't Don Manes also live in Jamaica Estates
(next door to an Asian woman who.... maybe....
had some underworld connections) ?

Ackerman/Manes in the same hood.....h-m-m-m.
Any visits from Tommy Huang ?

And if the house was updated and beautiful you would all be crying out what a corrupt politician he is to be able to afford such nice things.

Manes, Ackerman and Cuomo all in the same neighborhood at the same time. Yikes!
