The dirt bike dirtbags of Wayanda Park

"These ghetto punks ride their dirt bikes and quads down Hollis Ave doing wheelies on a daily basis. Sometimes, they speed down the sidewalk all the way down to Springfield Blvd, putting pedestrians at risk. The streets of South Queens Village has been taken over by these thugs. Now, they are destroying the beautiful lawn at Wayanda Park on Hollis Ave. As you can see, the douche bag on the quad covered his face while I snapped a picture of him on 217st. I'm going to contact my Community Affairs officer to see if they can step up patrols in the area. The ghetto nonsense never ends in Southeast Qns." - anonymous

It seems the crackdown on these shitheads has led to no avail. Even those videos the NYPD showed crushing one of these giant toys has not deterred them. These things don't belong in the city and the boroughs. If they want to drive these things as a hobby, they should move to Arizona or Phoenix were there is tons of room to do donuts and wheelies.

It's really cool how this witness described them, as douches. Because these buggies are quite lame.

The problem is the cops cant stop them. They run and dont pull over. Then if the cops chase them and they crash and hurt themselves everyone gets all hot and bothered because these "good kids" were hurt and everyone wants the cops to get in trouble for it.

No cop is going to take that chance chasing these idiots now a days.

This city and politicians are now more supportive of criminals than the police so this is one of the consequences of that.

THAT is because for so long in the ghetto SE Queens they have allowed bullshit like this for so long get so out of control and now they want to reign this crap in. WHY did they allow this crap to go on for so long to begin with? That is the question that needs to be asked and needs to have a legitimate answer.

Funny how low-income folks have money for shit like this, but cannot pay their rent.

This "Crap" happens in Bowne Park time to time when it snows as well.
Seems stupidity has no limits when the crime has little or no consequences.

Give them their own quad lanes. I'm DOT and TransAlt will fight for them too.

Until people come to their senses and rid themselves of people that create ghettos, there will continue to be ghettos.

agree that they are douches...and that this is obnoxious as all hell, let alone probably illegal, as these vehicles probably do not have proper permits. Why something has not been done about this is beyond me. I live in a neighborhood where I am taking my life in my hands simply by walking on the sidewalk because oblivious delivery men believe its completely ok to operate a moving motor bike on a sidewalk. Of course, people like us get labeled as serial complainers, but all we are doing is voicing our concerns about quality of life issues in our neighborhoods. What will it take for these nuisances and safety hazards to get some attention? Someone killed or maimed? Who will speak up for this? Our elected officials? Highly doubtful.. Community Boards? They're just rubber stamps for the elected officials and developers... Maybe the police but they have their hands full...

String some piano wire, a couple of random decapitations should make them think twice.

I've seen these in and around the Maspeth area too. What is with young idiots and these over-sized toys? They're like souped up tricycles!

To be clear, I can't argue against them being off the road (if and when some fool gets t-boned by a semi in one of these, that's on him) - but keep off the grass and green spaces! The people who actually enjoy nature and parks do not go there to see these jerks.

Wow, we are getting the Mad Max dystopia, people just behaving like a bunch of primitives. Too bad we did not get the Blade Runner dystopia, at least in that one people have the option of starting a new life on another planet.

Are these bikes registered to legally be on the road?

Go down to Fuzzys bar and notify the Pagan motorcycle group, buy them a tab and cup of quarters for the pool tables.
The problem it will get fixed real fast, --forget calling cops because the mayor and shitty police commissioner have the whole police force in handcuffs, horse blinders & duct tape

Yeah, every time we get a few inches of snow, there are a few idiots who love to go speeding on their ATVs (usually without helmets) through the streets of North Flushing.

BTW, "dirt bike dirtbags" is a great description (and headline).

They were originally started by drug dealers for deliveries. Cops can't catch them that's why they use these types of vehicles.

Aw one of ‘em has a Santa hat on too cute to prosecute i guess...

In other news the city bike lanes are not exactly busy at the present moment.
The bikers are nowhere to be seen on their seasonal bikes.

Derived from the Native American word for “The Place of Happy Hearts,” Wayanda references this site’s historic use as a burial ground. This park is one of many throughout the city that once served as potters’ fields. Washington Square Park, Union Square, and J.J. Walker Park all served as cemeteries for paupers, drifters, criminals, and others who were refused burial in “white” cemeteries. A description of Wayanda Park from 1872 said it was “desolate…with no tombstones,” a fact that led later neighborhood residents to appeal for a new park on the site. This request was approved by the Board of Estimate in 1908.

Maybe it is fitting that this trash use it like they do. This is why we don't have nice things!

Seems almost like a step up in classiness.

These things are all over the city. Punks and yahoos are riding against traffic, on sidewalks, like cowboys shooting up the town on saturday night in Inwood and the Bronx and the cops won't do a thing about it.

Because it made more sense to draw attention to yourself instead of maybe just driving a car that doesn't stick out?
