DOT's strange response to sign request

Hi Crappy,

DOT refused a request to put a No Parking sign (during school hours) in front of the new charter school here in Woodhaven. Currently it is the home for a school that has a lot of kids with special needs.

The reason DOT gave for rejecting the request is that there was a hydrant there, and they said the school should just use that. (It's actually in front of my house, not the school).

We went around and found seven schools in the immediate area with No Parking signs (during school hours) directly next to hydrants.

Hope all is well with you,

Ed Wendell

D.O.T. is broken. They manage to screw up everthing they touch unless it has to do with SBS and bike lanes.....

This is ridiculous. how would you like it if it was your special needs/ young child being taken off the bus in the middle of the street. Think about the children and teachers/ teachers aids and assistant and there safety. As you can see from the pictures almost all of the schools in the neighborhood have it and this is one that doesn't and it doesn't want to be granted. This is not right. All the schools that have it half of them dont even use buses. This is not right and it is putting peoples and the children lives at risk. The spot for the fire hydrant is not big enough for the business. I think DOT needs to reevaluate there decision and think about what if there child's school was unloading and loading there children in the middle of the street how would they feel.

Typical.. Not surprised that the DOT had zero clue where the hydrant is, I'm sure they have never even seen the area.. Thanks for trying to help your neighborhood Ed! Wish those whose job it is actually had the same desires as you!

Answer is...it's a (anti teachers union) Charter School.

Try driving north on 164th street, as you get to Lithonia avenue there is a traffic sign indicating you cannot make a left or a U-turn at the next block, Oak Ave.

However when you get to Oak Ave. there is a left turn traffic signal.

What idiots the DOT be.

Or Utopia Pkwy south as it goes under the GCP. The standing sign on the sidewalk indicates that the right lane can either go "straight" onto Homelawn or make a left onto the GCP service road. The painted line markings indicate that the right lane can only go straight onto Homelawn. One, or the other?

Umm what? That "No Left/U-Turn" signs is for the intersection of Lithonia and 164th. That's why the bollards are there. There is also a sign for the same intersection heading southbound on 164th at Lithonia. Moron.
