Curbed features interesting Kew Gardens house

From Curbed:

This enormous (we're talking 10,000 square feet of space) Queens abode looks like something you'd find in the middle of the country, not Kew Gardens: It's situated atop a hill, with a set of stone stairs leading up to a rather lovely and spacious wraparound porch.

The interiors of the house itself are a bit dated, which may explain why the home has gotten a price chop recently. It was originally listed last February for nearly $1.6 million, but as of this week, it's down to a $1.499 million asking price.

Here's what $1.5 million gets you: seven bedrooms (including one with a colorful mural painted on the wall, should you want that kind of thing); a gut-renovated kitchen (with, inexplicably, a ceiling-mounted TV); a wet bar in the basement; and, per the listing, a "backyard as big as a private park." And hey, it's a lot cheaper than you'd get for the same space in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

I love it! But that headboard has got to go.

It'll be a bargain for the Bukarivinian who buys it to tear it down to put up a 20,00 square foot piece of Bukarivinian Crap, since it already has the Bukarivinian banister on the stairs leading up to it.

Why it looks perfect for some asshole to tear it down along with all the landscaping and put up some cheap third world dwelling for multiple slob families.

Too many places like this have seen this kind of shit happen.

Gorgeous, but the guinea posts on the stairs should be removed: completely out of character.

Au contraire!

I simply adore it!

My knees can no longer manage stairs as in yesteryear, otherwise it would be a nice to downsize to this lovely little cottage...

I live in Kew Gardens and although it's a him to most places in the City, the one thing I live is the space. Most of the residents are older and have lived in the area for decades. I am deeply concerned about how the area will change that as they die/retire.

Either they'll be replaced by the Park Slope type who are in search of space and architecture (not likely because KG is generally a bus + train to Manhattan) or it will become new Flushing/Corona as people buy the houses and subdivide them, or at best, the nice houses like this will be destroyed and replaced with a tacky McMansion wannabe.

How can we preserve the area?

Your mother didn't mind the headboard last night!

Mic drop!

Plenty like that in Malba, Jamaica Estates and Forest Hills, just look at were all the top donors come from

You can try to landmark it but as the rest of the city has all but washed their collective hands of Queens you will get scant help -

You can call the preservation organizations in Manhattan and they say to you "This is worthy of of a landmark and we will help you, but wait, you said you are in Queens? Well, then", with a smirk, "call us after your councilman approves it and your borough historian supports you."

Good God, what gaudy taste Queens has. Must be an investor of "Steinway Park".

Yea but those wiz kids got the Clock Tower landmarked in MONTHS. Where in the hell was our borough historian or Mitchel Grubler's committee with an expression of outrage? They do not serve our communities it seems?

Now we got that damn marketing gimmick the Pepsi sign that technically should not even be landmarked - if you read the law.

As long as it doesn't become the hipster Park Slope of Queens, I welcome others to move in and experience this unique neighborhood.

"...the hipster Park Slope of Queens"

I can attest that no hipshits are in the leper colony of the borough, southeastern Queens.

Even if they build those affordable for enterprising millenials in Jamaica, they will not venture that far from goddamn Brooklyn and Manhattan with all those foodie and binge drinking establishments.

Despite how enlightened and diverse the hipshits are, they are bigoted and classist.

Get rid of that fuck ugly big balustered goombah staircase.

Maybe if they resurrect "The Soprannos" show it can be used as a set.
New title:
"The Soprannos In Queens".
