Running unopposed, yet rolling in dough
From the NY World:
A long way from humble Woodside, where he officially lives and serves as chair of the Queens County Democrats, Rep. Joseph Crowley conducts the part of his job the public never gets to see: bringing in big money as a leading fundraiser for the national Democratic Party.
Among the donors feting Crowley with fundraisers this election cycle so far has been the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, the company that processes Wall Street’s stock trades. The scene last November was an Italian restaurant near Capitol Hill, where amid décor of china plates signed by D.C. power-brokers such as Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emmanuel, two lobbyists from the company’s political action committee welcomed guests at $500 to $1000 per seat. The committee then chipped in $2,500 to Crowley’s campaign for re-election.
Depository Trust has plenty of company in donating to the Queens congressman. As of March 31, Crowley had raised more than $1.6 million in the 2012 primary season, with more than $500,000 of it coming from the finance, insurance and real estate industries. He has outraised and substantially outspent all other members of New York City’s Congressional delegation, even though he faces no challenger in the June 26 Democratic primary and is expected to coast to victory in November. Even his 50th birthday this March was an occasion for a fundraiser, with a live performance by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes at the Grand Hyatt – preceded by a robocall musical performance by Crowley urging his supporters to show up.
Crowley’s massive war chest highlights a stark reality of New York City’s congressional delegation: Members who are unopposed in their party have raised and spent an average of nearly twice as much in the primary season as those facing a challenger. The three who have spent the most on their 2012 campaigns — Reps. Crowley, Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler — do not face primaries and expect only token opposition in November.

That broad looks like
she's ready to cough up a hair ball.
Or maybe the sight of Joe,
the "Dem Doughboy", makes her sick.
Depository Trust Company has been moving their back office operations and many jobs out of NYC to Florida and New Jersey while NY Rep Crowley takes their cash.
But what does Crowley care, he lives not in NY but in Virginia.
Geeez, what a horror both politically and visually.
Queens gets what it deserves. If you re-elect 'Honest Joe' over and over again while he moves his family away from riff-raff like you
... and regards you as happy little plantation workers who foots his bills - well what IS the problem here? .... besides your poor self-esteem Queens?
You almost expect people in power to dump on you ... and you reserve your pathetic ire for those who hold up a mirror forcing you to see what you are.

KA CHING!!!
What's even more bizarre is that Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation doesn't have competition. It's got monopoly rights to be the depository for Wall Street. You could argue that it's natural monopoly, but it needs legislative power to maintain itself as one.
What is going to have to be done to stop the huge campaign contributions and government by tyranny in this country ?
This is not an issue of Depository Trust.
Its an issue of Queens and the electorate that lets pathological politicians thrive.
the n.y.post reported that Sen. Charles Schumer,N.Y. received over $5 MILLION from the finance industry, since 2008. Yet he voted FOR the Dodd-Frank banking regulations law. some say the law is so difficult to navigate that it could be useless. Conservative legislators plan to repeal it.
ie. it did not prevent the $2 BILLION loss to Morgan Stanley Chase bank , last month.
There are made-men that have fewer associates in jail than Honest Joe.
Thank about it.
"...it did not prevent the $2 BILLION loss to Morgan Stanley Chase bank , last month."
Psst...that's JPMorgan Chase and not Morgan Stanley.
"Crowley had raised more than $1.6 million in the 2012 primary season"
Im young, under 30 years of age. My idea of raising money is/was going door to door and asking people for a donation to support a cause or charity, movement etc...
What does "raising money" in the political world mean?
Does it basically just mean company/person/corp "X" gave us some money to do their bidding?
"ie. it did not prevent the $2 BILLION loss to Morgan Stanley Chase bank , last month."
Wrong names, and the law has not been fully implemented.
Why would "conservative legislatora want to repal it?
Answer: So they can go back to cloak and dagger operations knowing that when they fuck-up WE the taxpayers will have to bail them out.
That your idea of justice, Gramps?
Puhleeze...
as soon as I hit the lottery I'm outta here!
I don't even use Queens in my return address anymore.
I simply display my zip code
followed by New York State on all my mail.
I HATE QUEENS and
I'm embarrassed to let people know that I live here.
Maybe I'll trade my home for a studio in Manhattan.
And where is Occupy Queens in all of this - oh, I known, having picnics and practicing drum (or should we say dumb) circles.
#13......was the obama $48 billion bailout of the GM Auto Union justice to the BONDHOLDERS ,WHO GOT SCREWED ?
if GM stock were sold now ,the taxpayer would lose $12 billion plus.
if the normal bankruptcy law s were allowed by obama, the company could have downsized and reorganized .
the thousands of GM white collar employee's just had their pension plans given to a third party to
administer. that is 25% of GM's liability ,while the auto union retirees are safe ?????? JUSTICE ?????
can these pols invest some of their loot in the failed city franchise "VALENTINO'S ON THE GREEN", Bayside N.Y. ?
how much money did the taxpayers lose since" Caffe on the Green" was forced to close by the pols ?
Queens is a bigger loser than Crowley for having him in office. Stop Crowley now before greater damage is done. Soon he and Obama will be forcing you to take in newly legal criminals and support them and have them lead you. Stop Obama vote for opposition early and often. It s going to get really ugly folks!
