7 to NJ?

From Eyewitness News:

The plan to build a tunnel under the Hudson was killed last month by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, but Tuesday night it was in a way, reborn.

The Bloomberg administration is quietly planning a proposal to ease the commute for folks from New Jersey into Manhattan by extending the number 7 subway line from Times Square, under the Hudson River, all the way to Secaucus.

The plan calls for building the 7 line all the way across the Hudson into Hoboken and then on to the Secaucus Transfer Station.

The plan would achieve many of the goals that would have been accomplished by that other tunnel that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie killed because of the cost.

Extending the 7 train would also be a much cheaper alternative.

It would shave billions off the final price tag.

But the Bloomberh and MTA said they had no money ?

A "Big Dig" underwater tunnel to be completed on budget ? whos the project manager Allen Funt ?

2:Why are New Yorkers to subsidize billions of tax $$ at gunpoint only to import more cheap labor from Hoboken and Jersey city ?

This is great. If it goes to Hoboken it would save my wife a trip on the Path train and cut off close to 30 mins from her commute from Maspeth. One of the few smart ideas Bloomturd came up with...

If it does get approved, it will not be completed for at least 30 years. You and your wife would probably be retired by then. Any city proposal takes decades to complete, remember?

Horrible idea again from bloomberg and the MTA when the 7 train is already crammed full almost every car. This plan sounds completely unrealistic.

No Christie should take care of his state with the thousands of jobs the continuation of the tunnel with the NJ commuter train it would create. All big Christie knows is slash and burn.
Demand the NJ transit have a budget they can repay within no more than five years the debt created from this project.

Why are worried about New Jersey? Let them build a tunnel to us, we can't afford to extend our subway lines further in queens to unserved areas with huge populations in 2 fare zones. So now we want to serve NJ - he should run for office there, boy they need help but I am not paying for them, unless they are going to pay for the whole kit and kaboddle.

This is Bloomberg's idea, not the MTA's. He didn't even discuss it with them before he brought it up.

Another ridiculous Bloomberg idea.

Wait a minute, think back a few years. How many times has construction of the 2nd Ave. subway been halted for budget reasons and now they can come accross with money to build a transit tunnel to JERSEY. Sure, close firehouse's in NYC and build a tunnel, makes sense to me. The govenor from NJ has the best idea and that is "CUT THE BULL"

Fantastic - $2.25 for tax-free clothing

Enough wasting city money on Long Island and NJ commuters.

They come here for their livelyhoods, then take the tax dollars back out of the city, yet still demand city services.

Enough is enough.

Give Southeast Queens a subway line! Don't pamper the suburbanites with our subway.

People from Joisey coming to Flushing? I'm out!

Bring back the commuter tax. Let NJ worry about its own transportation problems. We have enough problems here in NYC and supposedly the city and state has no money.

This is great!

I'm all in favor of this plan!

It will make it easier for Snooki and "The Situation" to come to Queens and experience all the diversity and vibrancy!!!

Don't we have enough problems now?

Hoboken is a great nab - but do you Hobokenians REEEEALLLY want US to be able to hang by you so easily?

Hey, we have No subway service on weekends here in Ridgewood Queens where we will pay the same higher price fare for a lot less services.

As a woman wanting to visit friends or go out at all on the weekends Forget it because the shuttle bus they say replaces the lost subway service - isn't there at midnight while I wait alone on the street for the bus that hardly ever comes.

Mayor, you should live without transportation on the weekends in NY before building a subway to NJ. What about my NY taxes?

Attention QC bobos!!!

First, this is NOT Bloomberg's idea. This idea has a long history and has been around since the 1980s. Look it up.

Secondly, extending the line to NJ has nothing to do with existing crowding on the line. It would increase ridership, yes, but from NJ to Manhattan. MTA would benefit immensely at the farebox, and people who ride between Flushing and Manhattan would not see any increased congestion... except when Jerseyites ride into Queens to watch the Mets lose!

Anonymous said...

do it. we need it. great for the economy.

Hey trolls! Good ideas need funding and we don't have the budget right now!!!! What a bunch of selfish asswipes.

So they could have more money to waste and steal? Aren't we getting tired of being their facilitators on our precious dimes?

Yeah, let insure the MTA benefit squandering any new revenue they could achieve.

Let's stop the non-sense with considering NJ anything. Think improving the ugly service we already have - when are the weekend service work going to be completed? When will Cell phone and wireless work underground? Why can't we be given money to extend the # 7 to LGA instead of building a hi-speed train to ever popular Buffalo? Why can't the JFK lite rail be a free transfer to MTA riders including LIRR? Why are we spending money on tearing out the Post office when the existing facility is good enough? Why can't we have the LIRR rebuild the stations they tore down in Queens restored for use and to provide all Queens riders boarding in Queens the same fare as NYC subways? Why can't the lines ending in Jamaica or Union Turnpike be extended to Queens College?

The 1980s?

This idea has been bouncing around since the 1920s!!!!

This idea's not going anyplace in 2010, so some idiot will raise it again in 2060!!!!

Extend the & along the Port Washington line to drive out the antiprogressive pimpmobilers.

Chris Christie is a pragmatist. You can't spend money that isn't there & endlessly raising taxes isn't the answer. I wish Bloomberg had half of Christie's brain power.
