When will we learn?

Well folks, I decided last night that I would have a drink for every incumbent that got defeated in the primary. It was a rather sober evening.

The closest race was Vallone-Graziano. Only 500 votes separated them and the final tally was Graziano 45% and Vallone 55%. I guess there are a lot of Democrats in that district who don't like fraud, yet there are even more who are ok with it.

Of the open seats, the machine-backed candidates, Francisco Moya and Adrienne Adams, both won their respective races.

Perhaps if the turnout hadn't been so abysmal things would be different, but here we are once again after the primary with the same tired old "Virginia Joe"-endorsed candidates likely to cruise to victory in November.

God bless America!

For those that vote with ignorance, familiarity and most of all, fear and those that didn't vote at all; A: never.

The constituency has quit. This is normalcy and normal is fucked.

Although even with the abysmal and disgraceful low turnout, it isn't like the incompetently corrupt BOE didn't try to discourage people...

The ONE THING you can count on in an election in NYC is a piss poor turnout on primary day. The common misconception among the sheeple is that primaries don't count.

Well when you have morons in the city like this lady quoted in the NY post, is it any wonder this place sucks

Jean Powers, 57, of Tribeca, said she went with de Blasio because he seemed “more animal-friendly” than his primary opponents, although she was disappointed he failed to keep his 2013 campaign promise of booting horse-drawn carriages from Central Park.

“I didn’t want to [vote for him], but I did,” she said outside PS 234 in Manhattan.

“I’m not happy with the way the city is,” she added. “There’s a lot more homeless down here. I’ve given more food to homeless people in the past year than in the past 20 years.”

Was there any doubts? as Stalin said: "It's not the people who vote that count; it's the people who count the votes." The vote counter is the Queens Dept. of elections. Enough said.

Joe Moretti said...

Yep, same old tired SHIT due to the lack of participation by Democratic SHIT voters, who obviously LOVE to complain, but lack any kind of action for change, including the right to VOTE.

Mind-blogging in a city that claims to be so progressive and claims to have so many educated people. Again proving that NYC is NOT the center of the universe, not the greatest city in the world (not even in the USA) and filled with mindless robots.

Sad state of affairs.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised...I was hoping to see some changes, I especially thought that Liz Crowley was going to get more of a fight. If Graziano had spent more time campaigning door to door and doing grassroots campaigning on the issues that impact the district and less time on the truly scandalous petition signatures situation ( I don't fault him for raising the issue but he spent way too much time on it and made it the central focus of his campaign) The bottom line is the Queens Democratic machine cannot be defeated. They are too entrenched. We live in a Stalinist borough. I have worked on some well financed and well organized campaigns that went against the machine and despite monetary advantage and boots on the ground, we still lost. The machine has created a cycle of dependency, graft and blind loyalty. Unless Virginia Joe, Stavisky (Both Toby and her evil son) and gang of thugs are dealt with, things will never change. Across the city, not a single incumbent lost. I have no hope for November. Queens, you have made your bed, now lie in it, because it will be infested with bed bugs called the Queens Democratic Machine.

That's kinda funny considering that he's been a Dem for longer than she's been alive.

I hope the GOP gives him their line somehow though.

I mean really, all she is, is a bobblehead for BDB.

Monserrete is a convicted criminal and spouse abuser. He needed to lose. Anyone stupid enough to vote for him shouldn't be allowed to vote, period.

If that means Francisco Moya wins, I am 100% ok with that.

Holden might a registered dem but his policies are aligned with Trump, and believe it or not, the vast majority of people in this city and even country don't want that garbage.

Are you serious? He knocks on undecided voters' doors and the first thing they see is his stupid-looking wannabee hippie hair bun? As the old saw goes: You can't make a first impression a second time. Paul, that hair bun is so ugly that even a hippy wouldn't vote for you.

If he had listened to us and cut that idiotic piece of shit off his head he could have beat Vallone by those needed 474 votes. PHYSICAL APPEARANCES MATTER.

2518 voted for Graziano and not one person told him to cleam up his tonsorial act?

Holden will be on the ballot for the general election, he has the Conservative endorsement and most of the Republican voters from Glendale and Middle Village will vote for him. Add the Dems that voted for him yesterday and he still has a good shot.

But Vallone cheated!!!! His staff forged! many times!!

Anon has a point, appearances matter. If he was campaigning in Bethel or Woodstock that look might pass.

It's why low budget commercials still put people in lab coats when selling snake oil. The lab coat adds authority. Stupid I know, but it works.

So yeah, he might want to cut his hair next time, and wear a lab coat.

Won't Graziano be on the November ballot on the Reform Party line? If so, all hope is not (yet) lost that enough people will come to their senses and dump Stinky.

Graziano is a good guy but I can't argue with you. He should have held a haircut fund raiser and donated the proceeds to St. Mary's Hospital or some other good cause. The media would have loved that and he would have gotten free publicity.

Yup. Just the die hard, dyed in the wool and dead from the neck up democrats voting for dizzy Lizzy in the primary.
Holden will do well in the general election and get the GOP vote. If I am not mistaken republicans are not even running a candidate.

Anonymous said...

Holden could have a chance as this district has a history of supporting a Republican in the past...he will have to campaign hard, and he will need money. Is there a Republican candidate?

Joe Moretti said...

They all act as if Vallone won his seat. NOT TRUE.

Graziano will be on the Reform Party ballot in the general election.

The local media, especially shit Queens reports so poorly with truth and facts.

The only thing worse than a do-nothing deBlasio and do-nothing Liz Crowley is a lame duck de Blasio and Crowley. More homeless shelters, Riker's community jails coming to a neighborhood near you. Wake up sheeple!!!!!

Just make sure that Holden doesn't do any photo ops with Dennis Gallagher - that would be the kiss of death.

Holden needs to double down now. He got over 1/3 of the Democratic vote and believe it or not there are still a good number of Republicans and Conservatives in this district. The battle has just begun.

Interesting point. But isn't it peculiar that the people who have the inherent right to vote were willing to support and pull the lever for a guy who stole thousands of tax payer dollar from the city and beat his spouse than trust a neoliberal district carpetbagger with a luxe apt. in L.I.C living with his parents so he can qualify for the race in said district like Moya?

And isn't it quite peculiar that the BOE moved an entire poll site in Lefrak City that elderly residents relied on and moved it elsewhere where some voters couldn't find it or were to infirm to make it?

This is not an endorsement of Hiram and definitely not one of the diabolical Moya. But this was a blatant effort to disenfranchise voters. And it's probably more for Hiram's new populist stance against predator developers than his prior offenses.

Normal is fucked. Larry Storch for Public Advocate.

A good start would be for We Love Whitestone or Greater Whitestone Taxpayers (or both) to have a candidates night. Broadway-Flushing had one in June and Bay Terrace had one in August. Step up, Whitestone!

Yeah that, and I am sorry to say, get a damn haircut...perception is everything...the 60s are over, get out there...third party candidates are at a enormous disadvantage but now you have a wider net to cast... a broad electorate in a general election... it has happened before, rarely, but it has happened before.

Also, let's make Lionel get a real job after November and see how he fares in the real world, not feeding at the trough of the public taxpayer dollar

The fact people need to write stupid things about Liz Crowley and her sex life tells you why she won. People are stupid and don't want to spend time reviewing and researching the facts.
they would rather make snarkey and boring comments. Sounds like stuff comedians from the 1950's used to say....Its 2017...say something relevant.

I voted for Robert Holden.

They're doing that because she banged a married assemblymember who went to jail for giving her stolen union and little league money. Trust me, people know "the facts".

Oh God, another four years of Paul Vallone...so deadly!

Why aren't the Republicans running a candidate in the relatively conservative 30th Council District? Who is the Republican candidate? The two candidates, Crowley and Holden, will split the Democratic vote. Don't you think that this opens the door for a good Republican candidate? What kind of party is the Republican Party in Queens? There is only one Republican who could win under these circumstances, but the Queens Republican Party is too stupid and moribund to back him.

Anonymous said...

The Republicans will vote for Holden because he makes a lot of sense and can speak in clear English without starting a sentence without Uhh.

I'm hoping people have woken up because NYC can not survive any more of these assholes. And TWO I really dont want to sell my house and move to some bible packing Ted Nugent red state that hates New Yorkers !

Graziano should have spoent more time knocking on doors and less time holding press conferences and wasting campaign funs (tax-payer dollars) on handwriting experts. If there was a crime make a complaint to the authorities and follow up on it. But 500 votes means that he could have knocked on enough doors himself to change this election. But now he's just a 2-time loser and proven to be a bad candidate.

WRONG. 500 votes means Graziano is within striking distance and that's gotta be making the incumbent and his sycophants nervous. If Paul V. had been a great councilmember, theres no way he would've won by only 500 votes.
It should've been a landslide for P.V....and he knows it.

,

Vallone troll: the campaign "funs" are not taxpayer dollars that were spent on the court case, which was discussed multiple times already. Stop the lies.

As for knocking doors, I live in Bayside and was door-knocked 3 times: once for me, once for my wife and once for my son (who is over 18 and can vote). Not once did Vallone and his mopey crew come by to knock on my door.

Not a single incumbent lost in the Democratic Primary, and my guy - Graziano - came closest in the entire city, so fuck off. And you can be sure I'm going to get all of my Republican and independent voting friends to vote for Graziano in November.

Not true. This race was closer:

Council District 1

Candidate Votes Percent Winner
Margaret Chin 5220 45.9%
Christopher Marte 5020 44.1%
Aaron Foldenauer 699 6.1%
Dashia Imperiale 445 3.9%

Precincts Reporting: 127
Precincts Total: 127 Percent: 100%

Anonymous said...

In 1:1 contests, Graziano was the closest.

Anonymous said...

Poor Marte, he might have knocked her on the Chin if it wasn't for those meddling candidates!

Anonymous said...

"In 1:1 contests, Graziano was the closest."

Marte in district 1 actually did better because he had two others competing for the anti-incumbent vote and still came much closer than Graziano. Graziano would not have done as well if there were other candidates -- just look at his prior elections where there were multiple candidates.

Anonymous said...

No guarantee those votes go to Marte if the other candidates weren't in it. They came out to vote for their candidate and may not have voted at all. The result is that incumbents won everywhere regardless. Really tough to dump the Machine.
