Beware of the Metro Ave ticket trap

From CBS 2:

On Thursday night, CBS2 shared a story about drivers in Queens who felt they were being forced into a ticket trap, with police standing by to write them up for blocking the box.

In the 24 hours since, more drivers have come forward with the same complaint. So CBS2’s Jessica Layton demanded answers from the NYPD.

The corner was empty of the NYPD traffic enforcement officers Friday, which came as a welcome sign for drivers like Angela Taveras, who said for weeks the agents have been pouncing on people who get caught in the chaotic intersection while doing nothing to help traffic move along.

And we are supposed to believe police officials when they tell us that cops do not have ticket quotas.

This is an outrage, people should be more pissed off. That cop being interviewed can't be any more of an obtuse jerk and tool for city sanctioned arbitrary bullshit.

What's the purpose here anyway? Just this last week the UN had it's big event, which our president just declared war by the way, and along with the cordoned and blockaded streets to make these world leaders and assemblymen nice and comfy there was cops on these blocks, armed officers including the traffic cops, in the middle of the block directing traffic. So why can't the same apply here with a busy intersection that I assume is a focus of de Faustio's vision zero/tunnel program? Don't they realized how wretched and lousy the optics are and how unscrupulous it is with 5 cops just standing around waiting to pounce on unsuspecting motorists. Imagine if a collision really happened while those cops were standing around doing squat.

I look at this and see that maybe some folks are right that there is a conspiracy to discourage people from driving (and I am a habitual cyclist). What makes it give a little bit of credence is that a major luxury building development is not far away from there.

They not showing the other related mess at Fresh Pond & Elliot.
Bottle neck with sloppy work, steel plates on the ground (rip your tires)
The gypsy cab driver from Woodside station wouldn't even go into Ridgewood, 8PM and it was STILL bumper to bumper mess. He said "f this" if you get out Fresh Pond & Elliot he will only charge $10. --And I did move faster on foot.
The traffic agents literally standing in the middle of the roadway to catch nail somebody stuck in a box (you cant even see) I was on foot and said "hey you should be ticketing the contractors because this is the sloppiest work operation Ive seen to date" "the small number and lousy sloppy placement of these traffic cones is not enough to make sense, these drivers, everybody is confused" These steel plates have sharp broken welds on them from a previous job that weren't ground off before reuse its damaging people tires in a way that makes them dangerous at highway speeds.

These ticket brownies didn't give a shit and refused to even hear or see those problems, CLEAR PROBLEMS right in front of them
How do such worms & morons even pass the test to get such jobs and benefits ?

It never ceases to amaze me how NYPD will go out of their way to give tickets in these situations, but conveniently overlook ACTUAL safety problems. One example that comes to mind is right in front of the Municipal Building in lower Manhattan where people run red lights with impunity and cyclists ride the wrong way/run the red light while pedestrians have the light to cross. Cops are always in the area and I have never seen a single ticket handed out. So much for vision zero.

I drive all the time and don't agree with a lot of this vision zero stuff but why can't the drivers just not block the box and wait until the intersection is clear and then go?

Drivers are blocking the intersections way too much these days. I think they should step up this type of enforcement more.

I think you need to get on of those Citi bikes adn use the bike lanes.
You don't belong in a car.

Like gambling buses running red lights, killing people, sending people to the hospital in critical condition and destroying property.

These are traffic agents, not cops. When I was a cop, the so-called quota was 20 summonses a month. Most civilians I have ever spoken to on the subject have told me they could easily write three times that much in a DAY in their neighborhoods and still not catch half the traffic violators.

Watch the access to the Grand Central in front of the Bulova Center. Another trap.

Yeah, because operating a vehicle in NYC is very hard.

Look forward to the City doubling down on these sorts of tactics in the name of "Vision Zero" if DeBlasio gets reelected.

Because their job is to give as many tickets as possible. Their job has nothing to do with taking care of the roads or making driving smoother and safer. If they focused on that they'd be fired.

If they want to write tickets how about stopping the loud noise from the music that I hear every weekend in Whitestone ! Bass that is traveling from miles away destroying our quality of life.

This has been going on for a very long time throughout Queens. Seen it with my own eyes in Rego Park, and in Long Island City.

Coppers are just another form of unionized thugs

I'm confused -- these people are breaking the law and acting selfishly. Why are we supposed to be angry that the NYPD are actually doing their jobs this time? Come on Crappy, you can do better than this.
