Another LIC hotel converted into shelter

From Sunnyside Post:

A Best Western hotel located near the Sunnyside/LIC border has become a homeless shelter, the Sunnyside Post has learned.

A hotel employee at the 38-05 Hunters Point Ave. site, reached through the hotel’s listed number, confirmed that the site will fully house homeless families, and that homeless families began coming in yesterday.

“It was a surprise for everybody,” the hotel employee said. “We only got a week notice.”

The employee said “everything changed” on Sept. 25. The date coincides with a photo tweeted on that same day showing a letter written by hotel management to employees at the Hunters Point Ave. site. It is unclear what the twitter user’s relationship to the hotel is.

“This letter is to inform you that your employment with…Best Western will be ending on September 25, 2017,” the letter written by SSN Hotels, a Delaware-based LLC, reads. “The business has been sold.” The tweet was directed to Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, who replied on Sept. 26 saying that a member of his staff would follow up with the user.

Councilmember Van Bramer and the twitter user could not be reached for immediate comment.

"No comment from Jimmy Van Bramer" - maybe because he was too busy "taking a knee" at City Hall for a photo op on 'oppression' - to hell with his constituents. And bet you a dollar he knew all about that skank motel becoming a homeless shelter - again - to hell with his constituents.

Has anyone ever started looking at hotels being built and wondering how long it will take for them to turn them into a shelter?

How long before Van Bramer has his staff or the local dems rushing to register his new voters?

Imagine that!

And I was considering spending a few days in the area as a tourist to partake in the history and culture of the neighborhood.

Where will I stay in the evenings? AirBnB perhaps.

I will have to reconfigure my plans with this bit of news.

I am truly shocked and astounded...

Thanks Mayor DeBlasio.

ALL of these hotels are being turned into shelters. No surprise here.

Why don't they just put up a sign that says HOMELESS SHELTER and call them what they are? DeBlasio is allowing hotel development all over the city. He thinks the hotel shelters will solve the problem. I feel bad for the tourists who book a hotel in good faith, only to find out they are staying in a shelter. Vote DeBlasio out come November. Otherwise, start looking for real estate outside of the city. You get the government you deserve.

Put one on Van Bramer's block.

thank JVB also for allowing this to happen he knows all about this from day one especially since he knew about the "Quality Inn" on queens boulevard since May of 2016 and he claims he never did and he also said he does not want anyone to protest - and plays dumb -- don't think his pockets are not being lined because they are for sure -

Elizabeth Crowley did the same thing in Maspeth. She knew all about the shelter at the Holiday Inn, but didn't tell her constituents. Then she lied and said she never knew. Remember -- this is an election year. Lots of City Council Members wanting to get re-elected. Vote them all out. It is key to get rid of DeBlasio. Vote for Maliotakis. If DeBlasio gets another term, you won't recognize this city in 4 years.

I've actually stayed at that hotel and it's right next to the LIE and the noise in my room was unbearable. I could barely sleep or hear myself think.

The only saving grace is that it is off the beaten path from the residential homes, so hopefully the bad elements will linger off the LIE service road and not the residential community behind the hotel. One can hope.

They are not even sneaky about it anymore. Well, they are more but now it's more in your face. This is the real affordable housing plan.

Take a knee daily for REBNY Jimbrowski. Enjoy your council speaker position while it lasts, maggot.

As for the comfort inn in Kew Gardens, you are damn right that will be a homeless shelter. I knew the one in Ozone Park was never ever going to be successful.

Nobody is going to rent those faux luxury market rate apartments, you must be out of your mind, unless they might be cheap little pied-a-tieres.

Where is Hostess Katz by the way, she's practically persona non grata these days.

Anyone from Queens that votes for deblasio with all the crap he is dumping in our borough has got to be insane and stupid.
