Skelos conviction tossed

From the Daily News:

A federal appeals panel threw out the corruption convictions of former New York Senate majority leader Dean Skelos and his son, court documents revealed Tuesday.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim wasted no time in announcing that his office plans to retry the two men following the widely-expected ruling in the defendants’ favor.

Skelos and his son Adam successfully appealed their December 2015 convictions, arguing that prosecutors' arguments conflicted with a recent U.S. Supreme Court interpretation of public corruption law.

The pair were convicted of bribery, extortion and conspiracy.

Way to go Preet!

Good job Preet!

His son was his weakness and soon he'll go to jail over it. What a pity.

They will all get re-convicted at retrial. Just a stupid procedural error.

Preet may have been a disappointment, but the justice system is clearly warped. The Mcconnell decision by the Supreme Court of the United States has rendered political corruption acceptable and officially legal. This is the real fascism.

What's funny is that these two scumbags and their compadre Silver were busted before that decision. So how the hell did they cite precedent? It's more like citing clairvoyance for it.

It's an Albany thing. A majority of the Assembly is wrapped on corruption.

Never steal anything small. Little crooks get Rikers Island. Big ones skate!
So, what else is new up on Albany?

Thanks SCOTUS, we didn't need honest politicians anyway.

For the imbeciles blaming Preet, he successfully prosecuted them. There was no way in hell he could have foresaw that SCOTUS decision coming AFTER he had already convicted them. Too many people on this blog love pointing fingers, yet have no idea how the law or even government works. Preet still ended their careers. Preet also successfully prosecuted over 11 corrupt elected officials. So instead of condemning him and his legacy, why don't you take a moment to reflect on your nonexistent contributions to making our political system better.

Re: imbeciles against Preet.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the man, I am probably one of the few on this thread that does. My disappointment with him regards how his office wouldn't let Progress Queens get FOIA requests fulfilled.

Skelos the father got busted and was able to wangle out - don't really care - politicians are crooks by definition. But the SON on the other hands, seems to be nothing but an unadulterated spoiled scumbag - him getting out on a technicality rubs me the wrong way.
