From the Daily News:
A group of heroic ex-soldiers will celebrate Veteran’s Day Sunday by continuing to serve their country — only this time they’re working in the storm-ravaged Rockaways.
More than 120 U.S. veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan plan to lead volunteers on missions of mercy to clean up damaged homes in one of the city’s hardest hit areas.
The former fighters are members of a national nonprofit called Team Rubicon, and they’ve set up a base in a parking lot at Beach 123rd St. and Rockaway Beach Blvd. in Rockaway Park.
So far, they’ve cleared out about 120 homes lashed by Sandy. They have nearly 600 storm-wrecked buildings left on their to-do list.
