Former Maspeth church site becomes crap

A few years ago, the Maspeth United Methodist Church, depicted above, burned down.

It was a sad day, as it was an historic white clapboard church building, familiar to many who grew up in the neighborhood.

The congregation merged with the Glendale United Methodist Church and sold the property to a developer and this is the result. Thankfully, the rezoning of the area prevented 3-family shitboxes from being built. The resulting buildings are 2-family semi-detached, and it doesn't look like illegal basement apartments are in the unwritten plans.

However, the developer is a bit controversial.

You can read about him here.

And here.

And here.

two family or three family. It does not matter. There is still no reason for them to look like shit.

Thank you to the United Methodist Church of Maspeth for crapping on our neighborhood.

Wasn't the paster recently standing in the ashes promising "we will rebuild it"
That was the nicest street in Queens now thanks to the church it has to fugly cheap shit boxes.

This all happened so fast. I think that church was professionally torched (without the pastor knowing) ---this was all planned. --Expect more of it

"no reason for them to look like shit"

They design them on computers to use the least amount of material, cuts and skilled labor needed.
Almost everything is a 4X8, 4X4 and or with 90 degree cuts to puzzle every inch of scrap for use someplace else.

New architectural and atheistic approval laws are needed to keep up with this wave of nasty computer and eastern block barracks logic.
Most politician's don't want to hear, speak or see a word of it !

Joe - yes it was probably one of the nicest streets in Queens. However, the Cemetery Caretaker's house was torn down and replaced with crap, and a bunch of 3-family homes was squeezed into an oversized lot a little further down the street. The street has been on the decline for several years.

Just goes to show you how much respect the United Methodist Church "congregation" has for Maspeth. Take the money and run and to hell with the neighborhood.

Religion is a dying institution anyway, except for those Korean "churches" sprouting up like pole beans everywhere!
