Bike lane casualties continue to pile up

From CBS 2:

Drivers in Queens say new bike lanes continue to cause crashes.

CBS2 first covered the problem last month, but no changes have been made the crashes keep happening, Dave Carlin reports.

On Friday night, one driver was left hanging on a concrete barrier to protect the city’s newest bike lanes.

This is an extremely busy cycling area that has been extremely dangerous for cyclists. Drivers should pay attention and follow speed limits then they wouldn't ram into needed protective barriers.

EVERYONE lane is a bike lane

The only way the city is going to get rid of these stupid lanes is everyone who has had an accident in them has to sue the city for millions of dollars for improper and unsafe design. If accidents are occuring with them that have not previously occured before they were installed, then the road was made more dangerous by the city and they should be removed and the city should be liable.

Where are the ambulance chaser layers when you need them? I'd love to see lawsuit after lawsuit over these lanes. Hopefully then the city will listen to the majority of residents and get rid of these stupid things.

It's time for cyclists to be licensed and insured.

They demand equality with motor vehicles, then they should get it.

EQUALITY COMES WITH RESPONSIBILITY.

I see the 'transportation alternative' employees have found QueensCrap...

Yea I agree with the comment that the bikes need to be licensed and insured. If they want to take over the streets with their lanes, then they should pay for it.

They should also have to pay the same parking meter fees as cars in commercial areas to park and chain their bike to all the bike racks the city has installed for them to use.

The claim they can’t move it a little bit over to the right because that would take away the sidewalk which would then need to be pushed over into park department land. The land looks like crap all the time anyway over there with weeds taller than I am so what are they doing with the land? Shift everything over and that should solve the problem

I’ve been saying the same thing all along. If you insist on sharing the streets with cars, then you should get equivalent auto insurance.

Is only a natural outcome of the insanity that rules with the current communist regime in NYC.
All part of Agenda 21 and the fake science of Global Climate Change.
Is all about control and money people, start waking up and get these fuckers out of office before is too late.

Absolutely! I have 3 bikes and 2 cars. Creating a priviledged class is the hallmark of communism which we all know has failed. So these so called liberal, progressive politicians are pushing a failed system while taking money on the side from crooks.
Thsi is not what America is about!

Yep, I said this was a mess last week... I didn't even know about the accidents, but it's totally not surprising. This must be what DeBlasio calls "Vision Zero" - he's blind to reality.

Bike licensing is a great idea.

Pedestrians hit by cyclists then have recourse to sue them for the recovery of medical expenses, lost time at work and their
pain and suffering.

Cyclist would be required to wear helmets and equip their bikes with reflectors and running lights when operating in the dark.

This concept is a game changer.

Equal treatment for all!

"Bike licensing is a great idea."
Get your head examined ! Adding more cost and taxes to the people is not the answer.
Slowing down the cars and teaching all that sharing the road is the law !

That's right! Time the bike crowd stops their arrogance and starts paying just like everyone else does.
Plus RESPECT ALL TRAFFIC LAWS, otherwise fined them just like the motorists.
You want your bike lanes? Pay for them.

"Get your head examined"

We'll that is a really "smart" response from a bike person.

I think this idea just opened up a BIG Pandora's box for the cyclists.

They suddenly realize that they might have to sacrifice a little to get what they have already had for free.

This licensing idea is growing "legs"

That would be a terrific new and progressive law for New York City.

licensing & registration fees could offset all the costs of this bullcrap!
insurance costs & fees would be a great way to kill this stupidity

So adding more taxes and regulations will fix overcrowding ?
For now Bike riding is free like the air we breathe.
More government regulation is not the solution.

Thanks to Vision Zero, speed limits are so artificially low that you can't say that with a straight face any more.

Bike riders can't continue their strategy of denial much longer.

They brought this push back upon themselves.

If they had followed the rules of the road, there would not be this kind of adverse public reaction from both pedestrian and motorists.

Step off the curb in Manhattan and you put your life and limbs at risk from intransigent bicyclists flaunting traffic signals and even the direction traffic.

D.O.T. executed a subpar and dangerous bike lane design on Northern Blvd. in Douglaston that requires immediate remediation.

You should go read through Streetsblog and see how many people are ACTUALLY killed by cars and trucks on a regular basis. Sometimes in the crosswalk and occasionally on the sidewalk.
