Some yeshivas not providing basic education

From CBS 2:

Mayor Bill de Blasio admitted Monday night that some yeshiva students are not being taught the basics.

But how soon Hizzoner will fix the problem remains to be seen. CBS2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer was demanding answers Monday.

“The issue must be resolved,” de Blasio said.

De Blasio was talking about charges of poor education at some yeshivas, and a complaint filed against the city to force the schools to comply with a state law that non-public schools provide education “substantially equivalent” to public schools.

The mayor’s comments were an admission that the problem exists, Kramer reported.

“There’s a full investigation going on,” de Blasio said, “and there’s a series of discussions going on with yeshivas to address that problem. It will be resolved.”

There was no indication when things would change.

They don't need to learn anything, they just go on welfare anyway.

DumbBlasio is not 1/10th smart or poweeful enough to fight the Orthodox Jewish bloc, and probably not stupid enough to try, either.

Not a fan of the mayor, but.....

the public schools aren't teaching the children anything, why would a yeshiva be different?

We have a generation not prepared for the work force and without any of the tools to adjust.

Does it matter if they went to a yeshiva or not?

Everyone knows by now that when de Faustio announces that there will be a full investigation it's a goddamn lie.

The elite groups in the orthodox sect is what pushed the mayor over the top back in the 2013 primary and mayoral election, he is as subservient to them as he is to the legion of real estate. It's why he didn't pay any attention to all the shenanigans going on with the NYPD involving those players and former bubbies Jona and Jacob

And why wasn't his lousy schools chancellor there at the press conference?

There are quite the many city run public schools, under the control of the Comrade Mayor where many a youth is unable to read, write or count beyond ones' fingers after TWELVE YEARS of indoctrination.

I am sure however, that they learned the Founding Fathers of this Great nation, as well as many other historical figures, such as Cristoforo Columbus, should be considered in contempt and evil.

Perhaps the Mayor should consider cleaning his own house before casting stones...

Books? Schmooks.

I taught "social studies" many years ago in a NYC public high school. Books are handed out and never used or very rarely to discuss the pictures inside.

Believe me, this is going to be all regurgitated bullshit by the "caring" Mayor.

Long Live Dear Leader!

Really, do you have kids in the public school right now?

Because I do, and I completely disagree with you. Which school specifically are you talking about? They are different based on where you attend.

What about the schools in Astoria? The kids are performing quite well.

Those poor kids have been deliberately denied by their own government and the NYC DoE the bare minimum standard of education they deserve as human beings, and as required by law. So much for "inclusiveness" and having "one city."

Neither are a lot of Catholic schools....too much time spent on "religion" classes.

You don't need a decent education if your whole function in life is to have a dozen kids and be on welfare forever.

"What about the schools in Astoria? The kids are performing quite well."

The standards have been lowered so any child could do well. get a grip.

Why are we paying for private schools anyway. If they were not funded by my tax dollars I say to heck with them they can teach whatever they want too. But that is no the case pull our tax payers dollars out of these school now.

hey john,
why you pickin' on sarc?
she's always got a point.
so things are good in Astoria?
you probably used your friends address to get them in there
great system when your kids are screwed if they're in the wrong zipcode!
my kids go with her kids to the same school, and they're not going to any public school
you know things must be bad when you gotta go through a metal detector
i don't want my kids to deal with that every day
weapons & stabbings are through the roof & Big Bird says we don't need more metal detectors
Blasio Balks At Idea Of More Metal Detectors In City Schools
so you think the numbers are good?
check it out
School leaders allow cheating ‘to boost the numbers’
then they don't investigate or do anything about it
NYC Doesn’t Investigate 99% of School Cheating Cases
so how can you trust the info the city gives us?

My intention is not to pick on (sarc) or anyone. I'm trying to make my case. Don't you have to do this at work when you have to present a strategy?

No actually, standards have not been lowered. The SAT and ACT tests have not been lowered and requirements are more difficult than 20 years ago. Can you point to which standard has been lowered?
>>The standards have been lowered so any child could do well. get a grip

I own a house that I bought with the money I earned from my job.
Which school are you talking about that is so bad?

Your article is pointing to a specific school and cheating. Depending on where you go greatly changes the education you get. That has more to do with income and education levels of parents living in an area. Uneducated parents usually end up with uneducated kids. Kids born to parents without a college education will most likely end up doing badly.

You point out cheating at public schools, should I point out a few Catholic schools where kids were molested as a case against Catholic schools. Of course not! Because all schools are different.

The mayor does not determine the curriculum.
Where are you getting this from?

Do you have any experience with kids at a public school or is this your opinion based on never going to a public school and/or never having kids at a public school?

Because I find the teachers to be great at my kid's school. They work hard, know the subject material and get the kids to work.

This is why we should use exams and common core to maintain standards

A lot of Orthodox Jews do in fact eat up a lot of welfare money. They have large familes they cannot afford. Public assistance is the answer. And many of them claim that the "schvartzas" with all their kids on welfare are bankrupting the system. Let's see if this truth gets past comment moderation!

Are the taxpayeers getting their return on our invesment of $20,226 per pupil?
That's twice the national average!
