Whitestone sidewalk blocker

"Hi Crappie,

On 2016 149th Street, Whitestone, NY 11357 there's always a white silverish 4 doors Acura sedan with plates FEY-8665 blocking the sidewalk.

This practice has been going on for years now because I walk that way a few times a week and is the same story every time.

I placed a complaint to 311 about this car some three weeks ago and still nothing, the practice continues.

This attached two family is located about half block west from 20th Avenue on 149th Street, it is a pedestrian way for mothers and their school kids attending PS 79 some 6 blocks from this address.

I don't know if this person has some political or police pull to get away with it but this shouldn't be permitted and he or she should be put in the Hall of Shame for their lack of concern towards their fellow citizens which is a very common practice among New Yorkers whom walk, drive and behave only thinking on themselves with total disregard to others.

It takes a disgrace of the magnitude of Sandy to make them react but after a couple of weeks the lesson has been forgotten.

Just imagine an elderly person (somebody's mother or granny) coming from shopping with her cart and having to take the driveway apron or even the street (this street is moderate to high traffic at certain times of the day including MTA buses) or a too enthusiastic child having to do the same risking getting hit by a passing vehicle." - anonymous

All around Queens car dealers and repair shops park on sidewalks. Greedy landlords now rent their garages and park in driveway right of ways that sometimes blocks access to garages for their neighbors.

This is par for the course and since it does not garner campaign contributions like development schemes is something to be ignored by anyone who can do something about it.

You can waste time calling 311 or calling your local rep who will almost certainly get reelected even if they do nothing.

Its a bit like hitting the 'walk' button at the light. Doing something might make you feel better but it will actually accomplish nothing.

Get off your high horse.

The government will never help you.

Just key the car or puncture his tires.

don't commit a crime ....cameras are every where...

In the old days one would stick a floor jack under the rear axle and wheel it out into the street blocking traffic. It will be towed away in minutes once it becomes a $$$ maker for the city

Super Halal Meat 253-06 Hillside Ave, Bellerose,NY 11426

Cars continue to park on the sidewalk while shopping at this store. It’s time consuming, upsetting and ridiculous to call 311 on these problem. This is a non emergency response for the 105 precinct. This means that the police will respond when they have time, within 8 hours. I don’t want to blame the cops for non-enforcement but someone is not doing their job and someone doesn’t care about this problem.

And while you are at it you might want to review the deed on file to see if that wall has been built over the property line.

If you put a sharp nail on the end of your cane and give the tire a deft jab, no camera will catch you actually giving the jerk a flat. I have used this technique successfully.

Its amazing how many creeps there are in Queens!

At least those are NY plates! I call 311, get the complaint number, ask when there will be a response - no response, call 311 with the complaint number and file a complaint about the complaint, along with a new complaint (and complaint #)... after you get a few of these, contact your PD community affiars liason - they WILL respond. And for a while the situation will be corrected - but then the jerks will go back to their old ways, so you start again. Eventually this goes on the PD radar as something that they should look out for, because a pain-in-the-ass in the neighborhood is making them look bad on the monthyl data runs (generated by 311). If you DON'T call 311, the City says the problem doesn't exist.

First warning, egg the car.
Second time, take a key and make a scratch.

That's the citizen's way of issuing a ticket.

Nice way to give your elected representative with nothing serious to do except pose for pictures in the papers, dispense your taxes to play one off against another, wile the hours with donors, and spend their time a their real house outside the district that they are busy running into the ground after extracting every penny they can.

311 is a dead end sham.

311 reminds me of a baby's pacifier.

Doesn't actually provide any milk, just fools the baby into thinking it's getting something.

Every 311 complaint is documented. When you get a service request number you have to keep it for your records; 311 and other agencies cannot look up complaints without the numbers. Yes, it is the 21st century, but the existing city databases are not user-friendly for both city workers and citizens. You can probably guess why. Don't give up. Continue to document the problem. Present a full list of complaint numbers to your community board and maybe they will advocate on your behalf. And frankly, anything that makes the city's response to quality of life concerns look bad will be of interest to de Blasio and other potential mayoral candidates.

When you call 311 to make a blocked driveway complaint, an officer is supposed to respond and if he finds a violation, ticket the driver. Then the property owner can call a private towing company or ask the precinct to contact rotation tow to have the vehicle taken away. The car's owner will have to pay hefty tow fees to get the car back.

But the ticket must be issued first, which is why every time it happens you must call 311 as soon as you see the problem. It can take 8 hours, yes, and the more savvy (i.e., evil) violators know that fact and will move their vehicle before then. But if the car gets towed it should teach the car owner a valuable lesson, having to pay a couple hundred bucks to get his car back.

The vehicle's not blocking the driveway. it's BLOCKING THE SIDEWALK!!!!!!!! Sheesh!

Why can't the owner pull the car not the garage or at least down the driveway. So lazy and inconsiderate to block the sidewalk for pedestrians.

Sorry, *into the garage

At least he is in his own driveway. I live near PS 162 in Bayside and school parents actually pull into our driveway and refuse to leave (of course they are blocking the sidewalk also since our cars are in the driveway). We have called the police numerous times but they never show. We have called the police, they don't show. Private property doesn't mean anything anymore and neither does obeying laws that are never enforced.

I understand the problem but I dont understand why you think the NYPD will respond to this - be realistic it's not going to happen for this type call if by 311 or calls - they have better fish to fry!

Don't call 311. like 911...its useless most the time.
2nd every complaint, phone # and ISP number is documented.
When the car gets f_cked up you will be a suspect and investigated. The degenerate scofflaw will also rights to the records.
Like my grandfather always said "when dealing with snakes, pricks or bastards just do the right thing and keep your big mouth shut"
--or was it the other way around ?

joe is on the money....stay anon....when whistle blowing.

if he has a camera on his property ,you have been identified taking the photos.

one does not need the publicity in this situation. do not tell any one that you complained. people have big mouths. retaliation is not desirable.

When cops used to walk a beat in "their" neighborhood they would take of things like this.

A simple nightstick to the fender for the first offense, just as a warning.

Second time, you got towed.

And yes cops walked beats, even in queens as late as the 1980. Remember watching a cop walk around making sure all the small shops on FLB had their doors locked. Andy of Mayberry did live in Queens.

Across the street from PS33 in Queens Village, there are a couple of houses with very short driveways. Only a Smart Car or something almost as short would fit without blocking the sidewalk. Nevertheless, a minivan and a full-size sedan typically would park in those driveways every day. The two community affairs officers refuse to issue summonses to those cars, even though kids would practically have to step into the street. Makes you wonder, do cops own the house?

If its the car that's blocking the driveway then take the picture of the car only it's disgusting people like you that put people's home on the website ... Did you ask permission for the home to be on the website... Give me your address and I will post your house all over Whitestone..
Or your license plate I will post it all over...

What a shame I can't for those people to rewind there cameras and see who it is and report it to the cops ..

Dear Selfish Whitestone asshole:

There is no law against taking a picture of someone's house or license plate in this country without permission. Any photos taken from a public sidewalk are 100% legal and I can't wait until you go to the precinct and get laughed at. Go ahead and make your empty threats. You got busted publicly and the neighborhood couldn't be happier.
