I don't usually post Long Island stories, but this one struck me.
Notice how the people who live in Jericho are mourning the loss of their trees. Compare them with the Queens residents who poison the street trees in front of their homes because they don't want to clean up leaves.
And check out the removal technique. Why is it that the Town of Jericho can remove a tree so that you wouldn't even know there had been a tree there if you didn't live there, yet in the advanced society of NYC, ugly stumps that you can trip over are always left behind?

the Jericho town property taxes are probably four times or more than those of n.y.c. homeowners.
it is reported that their public schools and teachers are producing pupils with the highest test scores and college admissions in ny state.
the public services do the job with tree stumps also.
their taxes are not being wasted on bike lanes.and converting teens school playgrounds to sitting parks.
Leafs are not the only problem with trees in the city. Sidewalks are broken by the roots which makes trip hazards for the home owner to worry about. What about the water and sewer lines damaged by the roots ? These repairs can cost the home owner many thousands of dollars.
I never understood how the city could just leave empty tree pits and stumps sticking up out of them along the sidewalks for years and no one ever trips over them and sues.
It looks like in Long Island they remove everything in one shot, thats what the city should do.
Summary: you believe one place does something better than another place based on anecdotal evidence.

The City has a program in place whereby calling 311 absolves the homeowner from any liability for a sidewalk made uneven by tree roots. And if you are doing preventive maintenance on your sewers, there won't be a problem with the tree roots and plumbing.
No I believe it based on video evidence.
Long Island residents live in Long Island because of the area. They take the extra effort to maintain their surroundings.
NYC is based solely on location. People live here to be close to work, schools, stores, etc. Pristine lawns are a long after thought.
Something like $10k-$18k taxes are a small price to pay for those in Nassau and Suffolk. Compare that to $3k-$9k in the 5 boroughs. You get what you pay for.
I personally know a couple of people who pour bleach on city trees recently planted in front of their NYC houses. They have their own reasons for doing so.
Advanced society of NYC? What are you talking about? If you love trees and green and gardens and can afford it, you live in the burbs. If not, you stay in the City. This is not rocket science, and it's not likely to change. It's why suburbs were invented 100 years ago.
Maybe Long Island trims and removes old dead trees, maybe they take care of street trees. NYC does not take care of it's trees. One oak tree in my neighborhood regularly drops dead 100 lb. limbs and the city does nothing. Several years ago a dying tree fell on my wifes car, the tree had previously been called in, to no avail. That's the difference!
When you have retard adults breeding retard kids who are too duh-doy-doy to comprehend anything in school and decide to go on chainsaw tree killing sprees, those are the products of NYC living.
because we are filled with people from savage nations that do not understand what it means to care for public property and have civic pride?
Queens is a 3rd world dump & only getting worse, after 30 years here I'm done, guess I'm going Upstate far away from these cretins!!!
I also thing people in areas that demand more and expect more get the services - even in NYC you walk around Manhattan or parts of Brooklyn or even the Bronx you do not see tree limbs fallowing on cars and trees far better maintained.
Queens is the borough of Can't Wouldn't and Shouldn't and it shows.
