The Council is comprised of 51 members who control a budget of $32 billion, larger than the budget of 48 of the 50 states. Its members earn a base salary of $112,500, after voting themselves a pay increase from $90,000 last year. Yet as these proposals for pigeon extermination and language bans have been introduced and debated, the City Council is busy postponing hearings into essential matters and services, such as the Nov. 29 oversight hearing of the FDNY’s Fire Inspection Program and the Nov. 28 hearing to amend the city recycling code for electronics.
City Council needs to prioritize
Earlier this year, the Independent Budget Office released a study showing that New York City faces the highest tax burden in the nation. Local taxes in New York are 90 percent higher than the national average for cities. At the price we’re paying, New Yorkers need to take it upon themselves to ensure better local government.

Hopefully, term limits will purge the council of these do-nothings. Maybe the new crop will be an improvement. The council couldn't be any worse than it is now.
A bigger bunch of do nothing jackasses you cannot find in this city. Our infrastructure is failing, and these douchebags are debating banning words and street namings...
Can we impeach these jerks?

It's incredible such a motley inept group of people control so much money. Serious money requires serious attention from legal citizen - not illegal types - yet they garner all the money. You would think that the Councilmembers would focus on funding essential issues like restoring fire houses that were previously cut - I am sure there is a well funded firehouse in the Mayors neighborhood!
It should be called the City Con (not Council).
They've been jerkin' us around long enough!
Now, now, now......
even a good jackass pulls his weight.
These MF's certainly don't !
Purge ?
It's high time to hang up the enema bag
and clear this foul chamber of its many crooks!
Then swing over to Queens
and apply the same remedy to the olde clubhouse !
Term limits is a step in the right direction, but things will not really change much as long as the clubhouse can fill empty suits with clone after clone after clone.
Add a lapdog press, unlimited donations from developers that mortgage our communities, community councils that left out the community, lack of public education programs on community preservation, large phone banks manned by unions, and did I say lapdog press that does little than print press releases from the pols, and the public's participation in the process is little more than nominal.
How about gerrymandered districts?
Hey nice picture of Avella
City council gets a pass:
they control the outer boroughs media and the Manhattan folks that have the resources to stop them are disinetered and focus their attention elsewhere (as long as the city council lets their block alone).
Is that C.M. looking for his brains?
At least he knows where to look?
