Welcome to New York, the best (purgatory) city in the world! The popular practice of scavenging for couches, chairs, matresses, carpets discarded on the sidewalks is to blame for the bedbug infestation.
(Who would want a matress soaked with another's bodily secretions??)
My landlord made a point he won't pay for exterminators if he discovered any used furniture in the apartment.
Some say that the illegal aliens spread the infestation, but I'd say it's anyone with questionable hygiene practices like using old furniture and going to the laundromat once a month...
Can blood-sucking bedbugs spread Aids and other communicable diseases?
Blame this one on the immigrants. You will see a lot more in 3rd world ailments in the future.
I'm afraid to use the carts at the laundromat because of fear of bugs (of any kind). Far too often, I see people using them to sort their dirty clothes. Once I see that, I have no desire to use one to haul my clean clothes from washer to dryer or from dryer to table. Last time, I just pulled everything from the dryer and put it in my laundry bag without folding. People are gross.
I'm lucky enough not to have to deal with filthy laundromats: the landlord has installed a washer and dryer in the basement of our building. FYI: laundromats are a rarity in Europe, in Eastern Europe as well. Even a 700 sq ft unit would have space and hookups for a washer. Sorry, but laundromats seem very thirdworld to me...
