TERM VOW TO NEW POLS
By DAVID SEIFMAN, NY Post
The 16 freshman members of the City Council were promised yesterday they could serve until 2017 under a new provision.
Under a proposal put forward by Mayor Bloomberg, term limits would be changed from eight to 12 years starting in 2009.
But in 2010, to satisfy the objections of term-limits advocate Ron Lauder, a Charter Revision Commission would ask voters to approve a rollback to eight years.
That would allow 35 veteran council members to run again and serve until 2013, having put in a total of at least 12 years.
But if the rollback is enacted, the freshman members would also be out in 2013, after just eight years.
Councilwoman Darlene Mealy (D-Brooklyn) said Speaker Christine Quinn's staff assured the freshmen that the referendum would include a provision allowing them to serve 12 years as well, or up to 2017.
"We're going on a promise," she said.

Darlene, you're going on a promise that Quinn cannot make. Quinn has no ideas that any referendum would have such a provision. Quinn has no idea that IF there were a referendum, and, IF such a provision were in it, that anyone but you and the other freshmen would vote for it.
So, ask yourself this: Do you want to risk your political career on a vote that defies the twice enacted vote for term limits?
Remember what your parents always said: "How many times do I have to tell you?"
Do you and the other council members really want to give the voters the finger in public?
Do you really want to piss off voters by giving this rich lout another shot at inflicting his Death and Taxes arrogance on taxpayers? Is he your Dear Leader Commissar? Or, do you report to your taxpaying and voting constituents?
Would he risk - risk - it all for you? Yes, certainly he would buy you (then sell you later), but, would he RISK his all on you?
Do you want to risk whatever political career you have on the word of someone who ripped of taxpayers (voters) by funding million$ and million$ on her own phantom civics?
Oh, yeah, she may have split some with you to buy you (she too will sell you later), but, do you trust a criminal?
This is your choice.
Will someone please make Bloomie go away?
Enforce term limits. Flush the toilet on all these politicians and lets start fresh. These people do not represent the interests of the people they are supposed to serve. It is evident that they only care about themselves. If this DEAL comes to fruition, lets vote them all out. Vote for the incumbent, whoever it is. It's time to let these politicians know that they are here to represent and serve us -- their constituents.
Let's see who the flip floppers will be. It should be interesting info for voters.

The whole point of this excerise is to screw the voters.
These Pols are wasting taxpayer $$ working on this proposal that benefits on the POLS. Stop wasting our time - get to work chumps!
vote 'em all out!

You mean vote AGAINST not FOR the incumbent!
THIS IS A BLATANT CONSPIRACY TO DISENFRANCHISE THE VOTERS!
A BLOODLESS BUYOUT OF DEMOCRACY
BY A BOSTONIAN DEMAGOGUE!
IF NYC RESIDENTS REMAIN SILENT...
MANIPULATED BY FALSE FEARS..
AND ALLOW THIS BUSINESS DEAL TO GO FORWARD, THEY WILL BECOME THE WILLING ACCOMPLICES OF A TYRANT!
