A crap above, part 5

69-27 59 Drive in Maspeth. Another crappy rowhouse that just wasn't tall enough...
Rather than buy a new house, why not just make the existing pile of crap higher? You'll be the envy of your neighbors. If there are any complaints, it will be because they're just jealous.

For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would rather do that than buy a house that's 3-family already.

Perhaps there's a view of the Manhattan skyline. Or a prime opportunity to leverage the neighbors' roofs as an expansive 3rd floor terrace...

couldn't the next-door neighbors bring the developer or what not to court, on the grounds that he's bringing down the property value of their homes or something of the sort? There's got to be some legal way to fight this scourge. Otherwise, owning property ain't worth jack, and you might as well just rent, so that when something like this happens you can just pack up and move.

There's lots of these houses around. Probably the first generation of Queens Crap, back in the 50s. (At least they're still presentable - today's crap will crumble in 50 years). These houses are usually t-i-n-y, so I can't blame someone for trying to expand, and up is the only place to go. But not to turn it into a three family house!

The home owner is thinking small and not Trump savy - he should be building 10 stories up and building out to the sidewalk to create a storefront. He has a total disregard to exceeding inovative crap standards.

I could never understand why all of a sudden people want more room? I have never seen so much expansion/replacement of homes in Queens ever.

I grew up, shall we say, quite close to that house and have relatives still living there. Not only is it butt ugly and out of place, but I'd like to know what happens to snow slide off and rain runoff from the new 3rd story roof? Do the adjacent neighbors' roofs catch it all? Gutters work only to a certain amount and these homes are attached. The parking on 59th Drive has always been poor and this won't help it at all. Shame Shame Shame!

Holy smokes, is there no end for crap that's taking over?
