Jesus Christ, Cardinal Egan endorse Como?

Somehow I doubt that Cardinal Egan knew this photo would be used for an endorsement piece and I'm pretty sure he doesn't speak in halting phrases of praise, either. Furthermore, churches and their leaders are not allowed to endorse candidates lest they forfeit their tax-exempt status. And he's not even in charge of our diocese - Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio is. Egan oversees the Archdiocese of New York.
I've never seen candidates use their communion and confirmation photos on campaign literature before. I'd also say there's a bit of overkill on the use of Jesus imagery. Noticed a misspelling of the word "staunch" as well. Ending with "God bless you" - now that's not really enough considering the rest of the palmcard. How about, "God bless you, my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ?"

The pressure is on! Now that Tony's got 'God the Son' on his side, there's only one endorsement Liz can get to top his... Can she pull it off?

How low can he go!

This guy is doofy, but at least he has half a brain, which is more than can be said for Liz Crowley, who has never done anything significant and feels entitled to a council seat because her family members are politicians.

Anonymous said...

Yes, half a brain is something all voters should wish for in their candidates.

Anonymous said...

Hey how about separation of church and state?

Anonymous said...

Is this good Catholic boy tithing over 10% of his inflated salary like the rest of us have been told to?

Anonymous said...

its just a picture, it doesnt say endorse any where. at least the guy isnt pulling a crowley and say he is endorsed by someone from june's special election.

Anonymous said...

Let's see: There's a photo of the Cardinal shaking hands with the candidate and a quote from him praising the candidate's "leadership." I'd call that an endorsement.

Anonymous said...

Beware the holier than thou crowd, they are full of manure.

Anonymous said...

A classic example of tweeding! Now his cohorts can drop this off at church, the senior centers, etc.

The little biddies can go out and vote for the "bhoy."

Anonymous said...

Egan is not endorsing him, he just lifted a quote.

Who is running his campaign?

Anonymous said...

This guy couldn't make you happy if he were the savior.

You're worried about his tie, his faded polo how he holds his paint brush. how about real issues. Not NY Post lies. Who even reads the Post anyway.

He's done rather well, I predict he will continue to do so.
Attorney, former prosecutor in Queens DA's office...
Who has the party chosen to oppose? No one!! She chose herself. Don't you know they told her not to run. it was all Lizzie's idea.

Finally a voice of reason, insight and understanding.

A big not for profit group
like the Catholic Church has got a lot to lose if they endorse this fat finocchio candidate...
their tax exempt status!

Send that piece of campaign literature to the IRS.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...
and you'd better go to confession "2-ton" Tony my boy and get ready to recite at least 500 "Hail Marys" for penance!

Yes, let's talk about the good Mr. Como's record:

Ran around on election day in an unregistered car with no plates and without a sound permit.

Built a hideous McMansion when most of the community is against them.

Hired Gallagher's staff and kept his office.

Paved over his driveway so that stormwater, such as what we had yesterday, would end up in neighbors' basements and overburden the storm sewers.

Promised to fund St. Saviour's but didn't.

Doesn't know how much the capital budget is.

Skipped out on a debate after promising to attend.

Is bragging about stopping slush funds when they were stopped before he was elected.

Serf Maltese's gofer boy for years.

Yes, he's definitely more qualified.

Anonymous said...

AND LET'S NOT FORGET HE PAVED THE WAY FOR TERM LIMITS TO PASS BY VOTING NO ON THE REFERENDUM. We don't need a sock puppet of Christine Quinn representing us.

Anonymous said...

And now your even stalking him. my goodness
GET A LIFE!

Anonymous said...

Tsk, Tsk ....Tsk!
It must feel like Ground Hogs Day all over again,
Mr.Boob.

Anonymous said...

He'd never attend anything hosted by those morons. Term limits for civic orgs.

Anonymous said...

Hope the newspapers pick up on this.

Anonymous said...

"Egan is not endorsing him, he just lifted a quote."

Where and when did Egan say this about Como?

Anonymous said...

Como has made a deal with Gallagher that if he gets re-elected now and next November, that he will hire Gallagher as a staff member.

No joke.

Now there's reason enough to vote Crowley.

georgetheatheist said...

And he didn't forget the Printer's Union logo, the "bug" either. A real "union man".

Anonymous said...

I say
At least he has a record.
What I don't understand is how Liz Crowley plans to fix the "unaffordable Healthcare Issues." I already know it's unaffordable. Everyone does sweetie. You can't even begin to touch that.
But what I really can't understand is what exactly she does. All of her literature reads "Educator." Does she have a degree or even a license to teach. Where does she educate. She is so vague.
Need to be more specific, at this point its no contest.

Como and the church? Please. He hires druggy ex-strippers and swingers, pals around with the most morally corrupt attorney on the planet and disregards every zoning regulation on the books.

Oh, I forgot to mention, his advisor and campaign strategist is a rapist and convicted granny molester.

Como No!

Anonymous said...

Did Tony Como ever get hired for a job that wasn't through a political connection?

Anonymous said...

WHAT A DISGRACEFUL HANDOUT! THIS MAN IS OUR COUNCILMAN? UGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Anonymous said...

"Como has made a deal with Gallagher that if he gets re-elected now and next November, that he will hire Gallagher as a staff member."

Gallagher is already working for Como's campaign.

I was just thinking about people who live in "glass houses" myself. I think blog about Elizabeth's Crowley's qualifications is a valid point.

Anonymous said...

Seriously, Crowley has been a busy one HERSELF in the past.
How can ypu vote in someone who has been caught LYING, CHEATING AND STEALING.

MOVE ON!!

Anonymous said...

Maybe Como can ask her that at the debate tomorrow night. I look forward to her being able to answer that.

Anonymous said...

It was a wise move on Como's part hiring Gallagher. What else does he have to do all day but blog in defense of El Gordo Stupido?

Anonymous said...

JPCA we have is the most corrupt of the bunch. First they blacklist Ms. Crowley now they endorse her. I'd love another tv debate

Anonymous said...

Hey Crapper, when will you stop being gutless and stop censoring comments?

Anonymous said...

Hey Pinky, I posted a comment free of any slander or foul language on your site yesterday which I see was never posted. So I think Crappy should tell you to shove it.

"You're worried about his tie, his faded polo how he holds his paint brush. how about real issues. Not NY Post lies. Who even reads the Post anyway"

True to a point, but the campaign literature someone puts out is a reflection of the candidate. Both Como's and Crowley's campaign literature gets an F-. Crowley's mispelled literature and vow to fix health care as a city council member are laughable. But Como's good-catholic-boy flier is not only stupid, its so tasteless, its offensive.

Both of these two demostrated thier lack of intelligence in the special election debates. And apparently the people they have working for them aren't any smarter, or someone would have put the lid on horrible and embarrassing blunders by both of them.

Anonymous said...

Just for the record, I do not endorse Como or Crowley.

I'd endorse Charile Ober, but unfortunately he isn't runnning this time.

Anonymous said...

I know this has nothing to do with politics but, his wife's a fat ass.

Anonymous said...

The Cardinal has the right to endorse anyone he wishes, as long as it's not from the church's pulpit. Get your laws straight, crappy!

Anonymous said...

Wrong, he must do so in a way that shows it is a personal endorsement and not on behalf of or with the backing of the church. Reading this, it is not clear that this is the case.

The printer union label on pamphlets is like a kosher sign for many union voters.

Anonymous said...

Godless George, you're right - that's the biggest union bug I've ever seen. And notice it's not at the bottom, but part of the text. A real Noo Yawk Republican... kissing the unions' butts.

Anonymous said...

isn't he cute. he looks like damien in the Omen.

these are the pictures every mother carries with her to show the judge how good and innocent her son is. John Gotti looked angelic in his.

Anthony Como's card is the most amateurish political handout I've ever seen. It's poorly designed, poorly proofed and certainly in BAD taste.

I was planning to vote for Mr. Como, Elizabeth Crowley didn't impress me since I wasn't aware of what she's done in the community. Now I'm seriously going to look at Ms. Crowley.

This Como advertisement is insulting and makes me wonder what kind of candidate would stoop so low and include his Communion, Confirmation and Wedding photos to get him elected. Tacky doesn't adequately describe him and his political handout.

Anonymous said...

What a dick!!! This thing is hilarious. What person in his right mind would put out a piece like this?

Anonymous said...

leave anthony alone you bunch of blogging idiots. you and your hate site should be flushed down the toilet.

Anonymous said...

Hey Kerri are you having an affair with him to so vehemently defend him? If so do you have to roll him around in flour and look for the wet spot when you are in bed?

Anonymous said...

I like Anthony and if I lived in the district would vote for him - but that's gotta be the f'ing funniest campaign ad I have ever seen - I think you guys have a new nickname for him - St. Anthony of Fatua!

Anonymous said...

Well, isn't Cardinal Egan's background in ecclesiastical law?

Two lawyers together!

H-m-m-m...Egan Como Llp.

Anonymous said...

This is the craziest crap I've ever seen!

Anonymous said...

The overfed Anthony Como is a foolish, unsophisticated bloated political hack.

I kind of hope he gets elected so we all can have a good laugh for several years. After all does it really make a difference who gets elected? They're all the same. So why not get a laugh from this clown councilman.

Anonymous said...

Let's see, Como is OVERweight, his wife is OVERsized, his house is OVERdeveloped and his good friend is OVERsexed.

The word "over" really does fit Councilman Anthony Como.

georgetheatheist said...

Let the dogs howl and bark. The Great Anthony Como Caravan moves onward.

Fact is, despite the misgivings of all the commentators on Queens Crap concerning the unaesthetics of this campaign literature, this is a brilliant piece of political advertising. If the moron voters "fall" for this crap, what does Como care? The bottom line is how many votes he gets on Tuesday. The howling, barking "elitist" vote has just as much electoral weight as the "isn't Anthony cute?" biddie vote.

And the biddies outnumber the elite.

Do the math.

If the best the Dems can come up with is Joe Crowley's half-wit bimbo cousin, the GOP should hold the seat.

Paving your driveway or maxing out on a house aren't crimes, like it or not. He should take care of any problems he's caused the neighbors, and I don't doubt that he will, since he'll be living there and not moving on to develop yet another property for hit-and-run profit.

Endorsements from the pulpit can result in loss of tax exempt status. Other than that, the Cleric has as much right as a Rock Star to speak in public on behalf of a candidate.

Anonymous said...

What do you expect from this overweight hack, Como? The same moron who had his peasant parents phoning voters during the June special election reminding "fellow Italians" that "Anthony" is Italian "like you." I would have loved to have seen the look on his dim witted mothers face when I informed her I was a Jew of Russian descent married to an AMERICAN of Italian descent and how her ethnic campaigning was offensive.

Anonymous said...

The Como-Cardinal Egan Advertisement goes beyond ethnic campaigning. It's disrespectful and demeaning to all voters. Just like the way Como treats his constituents, like morons.

Unfortunately, Como doesn't know any better. Within two minutes of a conversation with him you'll find something lacking in this man. He doesn't care about you or your problem. He can't hide his ignorance for the issues. There's not much happening behind those blank stares he gives you. I was in his office after he got elected and was appalled when he wouldn't even let me finish one sentence. He constantly cut me off but had no real interest with my problem.

I went home an Googled Mr. Como. I couldn't find anything of substance on years in the Queens District Attorney's office. And his work for Maltese was inconsequential at best. I did find this blog in my search and many of the comments here confirmed what I was thinking about Como.

I did find this from the New York Times: "Republican, Anthony Como, an aide to State Senator Serphin Maltese and a former assistant district attorney. His command of the issues is unimpressive."

Describing Como as unimpressive is being kind. Uninspired, uneducated, and unsophisticated might be cruel but those are the words that come to mind.

That would also describe an individual that insults Catholics and the Bishop by putting out an ad that misrepresents the Cardinal's position and outright lies to residents.

We're going to save this piece. Como's political career is over. This genius actually lied about a Catholic Cardinal's endorsement.

ASSSSSSSSSSHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
