The “green church” is now officially a part of Brooklyn’s history. The green-serpentine stone encased Bay Ridge United Methodist Church, built in 1899, now belongs to the dusty rocks of ages past. For Bay Ridge’s preservationists, the action is a signpost warning of things to come.As children went to school and commuters to work on Tuesday, the demolition company’s huge wrecking shovel hammered loudly at the walls of the building’s empty shell under a blue autumn sky as a fog of dust drifted onto people, buildings and vehicles.

Chalk yet another one up for the preservation community. Excellent work on your public education program.
Glad you put pressure on Hunter and NYU and Pratt to stop churning out prodevelopment studies that are little more than apolgists for developers and started them to focus on the things that builds strong and stable communities.
Glad you cut your ties with 'leaders' in the preservation community that are 'do nothings' or little more than hacks for the developers - and start to elevate the grassroots that are really doing all the work and absorbing all the heat.
And finally, you put pressure on the mainline groups who write grants for the five boros and spend them in one to stop doing this - and brought into the fold the 4 boro crowd hell bent on cutting the outer boroughs off from the mainstream.
Hey, gotta make more room for those mosques in Brooklyn...
