Fire leaves Sunnyside residents out in the cold

From the Sunnyside Post:

A large fire gutted a Sunnyside building on 42nd Street Saturday night leaving the residents of 20 apartments on the street.

In the 20 degree cold weather, police had barricaded the building off and residents were not allowed back in to the premises.

The back of the building was in such disrepair, boarded up with plywood, that residents have been told that they cannot move back in for several months.

is the landlord putting them up in hotels? what is the address so we can check if there were previous violations for things like no smoke detectors, etc?

I know that building - a friend lives next door. She called it the 'building from hell' very unkept and full of you know who.

There are always fires in Sunnyside apartment buildings - quite shocking too since the neighborhood is quite compact - walk diagonal across in 10-15 minutes - every other block seems to have a building where a major fire occurred in the 4 years I have lived there. Is that common throughout the city? Am I only imagining it is worse in Sunnyside?

huge, huge response on a bitter cold night. I'm sure the winds might have played a factor, and flames were visible 15 min after the first wave of trucks arrived.

I believe it was 45-17 42 St between Queens Blvd & 47th Ave.
1st floor fire out several windows, wind pushed it to 2nd and 3rd floors.

The person who called it the "building from hell" should show some sympathy for the tenants that lived there. And full of you know who, what HUMAN BEINGS. Some people should shut up and get over their racism or whatever bullshit they have going on.

those 'you know who' more than likely dont know how to live to the standards of the 1st world. theyre substandard living conditions put me and my family at risk, whoever does that and risks my family is not a human.
