War over crap in Sunnyside

From the Sunnyside Post:

A battle between a dog owner and a concerned resident–over dog poop–has led to a nasty threat and some curious actions. The following tree postings on 43rd Street (btwn. 43rd and Skillman Ave.) tell part of the story.

I have a dog that I pick up after and sometimes people (don't blame the dogs) let their dogs do their thing on my property. I pick it up.

Putting signs on trees I can't tolerate. It makes the block look like sh*t, no pun intended.

I had the same problem - caught the little scamp and her dog too. She had a bag like she was going to pick it up like a good citizen. Made a scene - hence she doesnt use my block any more to walk her shitting machine.

Don't you love the ones who walk around with plastic bags and when the dog does its dump, just keeps on walking.

poop leavers are the lowest form of citizenry. some obnoxious moron does that in my neighborhood between the ungodly hours of midnight and 4am! what an inconsiderate moron, but one day, one day... I will catch you!

Not to excuse filthy people, but I've been on the other side of the debate, bag in hand, bending to pick up when maniacs started screaming at me and browbeating me. I left the steaming poop right there and left. My safety comes first.

So far as protecting her property goes, red pepper all over the surface of her lawn will drive dogs off. If some idiot drags Fido on any way, there will be a trip to the Vet.

That last post was incredibly vicious!!!!!!!!!!!Please don't take it out on an innocent animal because its owner is an asshole.

I've confronted 2 dog-walkers already, politely of course. One a 40-year old guy and another a 10-year old kid. They know I'm watching. My ground floor treadmill window encompasses the area. Surveillance and exercise at the same time.

The pigeon feeders are another matter. I confronted an old bag by the Woodside Post Office once. She yelled her head off at me that the "poor suffering birds have to eat too". She really was a demented case. Now I just spray the bread crumbs whenever I see them with cockroach killer.

I know George. The scariest thing I ever saw was a neighbor who fed the pigeons and then put out his pet parrots in the yard surrounded by the pigeons and their filthy droppings.

Its called, "psittacosis" or "Parrot Fever." The primary hosts are all members of the parrot family and pigeons as well.

A high proportion of pigeons are infected with this deadly microorganism that causes fatal respiratory disease. Be warned.

Garden Centers also sell dog/cat/rabbit repellents. However, you have to put the stuff down every day, or every other day, because it gets diluted by rain, hose water, moisture.

If you think about it, even picking up the feces and putting it a plastic bag, and throwing it away in your own garbage can at home, (not my recycle bin, thank you very much) is a terrible thing for the environment. Think of all this untreated sewage that goes ... where? Pets are terrible for the environment and make your carbon-footprint huge!

It will be a wonderful day when some of the slobs in Sunnyside not only pick up after their dogs, but stop using trees on commercial strips as garbage cans!

I have two dogs, and I always pick up after them. even when one was sick I would carry a large water bottle to flush what I could not pick up. I totally understand being pissed off at those who do not pick up. There are some that do not pick up right in front of my building entrance. I once made this woman turn around and pick up. Gave her one of my bags too. But you know what, after reading all the comments, I would much rather be in the company of dogs than some of you. Do not pick on innocent animals just because the owner are a**holes. And for the awful person who mentioned pepper, my dogs don't care about pepper, it's one of them urban legends I guess.

as a tree steward, it hurts the bark of the trees to tape, staple or nail anything into the tree bark.

what irks me are the bicyclists who chain their bicycles to trees. The chain starts to wear away the bark and eventually kill the tree.

when there was an article in the NY Times about the legality of leaving dog crap on the street, lots of people stopped picking up their dog crap.

it's an f*** you to the world, same as blasting music until all hours of the morning.

I DON'T BLAME THEM.. we have a lot of dog walkers in maspeth and there are some who use the plastic bag b.s. and keep going. i have neighbors who walk up and down and let their dogs crap everywhere and do not clean up! i do not appreciate that i have to pull out my hose to clean up their crap.. and i do not need the crap coming into my home.. i hope they do save the crap and bring it to the person's home..

I don't believe in picking on animals either, but since this pet is the only thing this "person" cares about, maybe the threat if harm to the animal will get the human to straighten up their act. Really, the amount of sh&t in my neighborhood is beyond ridiculous. Why can't dogs use a litter box like cats?

Why I am I the "awful person" if you are the person trespassing onto someone else's property, destroying their grass with your dog's urine and shit?

I have family on both sides who breed dogs and none allowed their animals on someone else's property.

The red pepper will not bother the dog unless an ignorant moron forces him onto the property, since left to his own devices he would smell it and attempt to move away.

Red pepper doesn't bother your dog? Perhaps so if you are a sensible dog owner who does not bring your animal onto another's property.

Drag him on and leave him on and he will have sore nose and eyes and it will be your own fault and no one elses.

Be lucky if you are such a person that red pepper is the worst he could encounter. There are any number of pesticides, fertilizers and rat poisons that someone may apply freely to their own property that could kill your animal.

There are a few folks who make believe they are going to pick up after their dog and don't. Worse, some pick up after their dog and trow the bag in my driveway and yard?? Go figure - I would love to catch them in the act so that I can mash it in their face!!

How about this - let your dog go right on the sidewalk in front of your house - the dog owner picks it up but the urine and brown stains remain?? God help me with some of these folks.

There was a time when people walked their dogs in the street. Now, for some reason, everyone seems to walk their dogs on the sidewalk, and you do a doubletake if/when you see someone walking their pet in the street.

Huge, ugly brown spots on the lawn come from dog urine. I guess I miss the days when they peed on my car tires.

I'm sorry, but you people need to get a life. Most dog owners pick up after their pets. There are at least 20 dog walkers in my immeadiate neighborhood and I rarely see any dog poop left behind. I see people pick up after their pets in the pouring rain when I am also walking my dog. I walk my dog at 5AM and say hello to all the grateful ladies on their way to work. They are happy to see a man walking a 100 lb dog on their way to the subway at that ungodly hour. You never know.

The glass is half empty or half full. Try to look on the bright side. Some people hate dogs, I can't help them. Some people hate everything, can't help them either.

"Most dog owners pick up after their pets. "

Not in Forest Hills, they don't.

Anonymous said...

Nope, Forest Hills, 6th floor, walks his dog, picks up the s**t in a plastic bag and then throws it into the gutter for the sweepers to get when alternate side comes around..So it builds up all along the block until then...And if you are fortunate enough not to step on the bag, you will most likely run it over trying to park or get out of a space. Disgusting, and even after being spotted, told he keeps it up..Well his dog is bigger than him and the last time I stood close to him and attempted to tell him the dog immediately jumped on my arm and almost brought me down. I too am sic of it in FH.

There are a litany of dog owners traipsing their dogs up and down Maspeth Avenue/Grand Ave who dont pick up after their dogs. There is even a guy with 3 unleashed large dogs boxer, bulldog and pit-mix. He walks aroung with the phony bag. These people let their dogs crap right in front of Martin LUther High School and are not even ashamed at what they have done.
