Motorists ticketed after signs changed without warning

From Fox 5:

Some residents of a neighborhood in the Bronx and other motorists couldn't believe what happened to their cars overnight on a street in Kingsbridge.

The city apparently changed the parking sign early Wednesday, and then soon after traffic agents descended on the block and ticketed every parked car.

The sign used to say no parking on Tuesday and Thursday morning for street cleaning. A crew installed a new sign showing no parking Wednesday morning.

Some car owners that Fox 5 news spoke to can't believe the city would install a sign one morning without warning and then ticket all the cars.

The Department of Transportation issued this statement:

"New signs were installed today to replace signs incorrectly installed by a contractor on the east side of Corlear Avenue between W. 236th and W. 238th Streets. Those who believe they were improperly ticketed can request dismissal by calling 311 for a sign verification form."

I hope you got your $$ back, MM. Best.

NYC has a strange configuration - tons of scratch coming in from WS, Finance, hotel and tourist industries. They make obscene numbers - and give big moolah to the city. The city manages them loosely as a whole and there is a cozy relationship.

And the pols keep property taxes relatively low and the unions relatively happy, so as not to feed the anger of the middle class.

To get to my point, when shortfalls arise (economic downturn with less WS profit, lower tourism, etc), then the revenue generating mechanisms kick in.

The city starts hiring on the basis of whether the hiree generates short term revenue or costs it. The city hires people to go after violators - whether it be taxes or fines, whether it be police or DOB, etc.

The whole existence of NYC is based upon the expectation that we will remain, NYC. There is no expectation of prudence, of reason, of frugality... --- nothing else.

The city needs$$$$.All the people who are here that don't contribute, butinstead just take from the city, need to be subsidized by you.If you drive any vehicle in nyc you are a target. Each precict has 1-3 scooter cops who only write parking tickets, they do no other enforcement duty. The precicnts also have 1 man cars on all tours who only write moving violations.

The precinct summons guys only write a small fraction of the summonses in the city. The biggest problem is the army of traffic agents who each write approximately 75 to 150 parking summonses A DAY!

Yes ticket the innocent for revenue and eliminate fingerprinting requirements to increase welfare fraud.

So next ticket you pay helped pay for a Welfare mom's FIOS cable service, I hope that helps you sleep at night.

When will the 109th crack down on the korean mafia in Flushing. These guys are making millions with all their illegal productions.

The city seems to use parking & traffic sign placement to confuse us & generate revenue. Many years ago I got an illegal U-Turn ticket at an intersection w/a No U-Turn sign that was not there days before. My neighborhood, Kew Gardens Hills is a patchwork of alternate side signs. Some streets are only 1 hour restriction, some are 1.5 hour restrictions, and the days are all over the place. "No U-turn" signs seem to pop up arbitrarily along Main St. then are taken down. You really need to pay attention & read the signs carefully.

Bottom line, this city doesn't give a shit about any middle class or poor people. Anyone who voted for Bloomy and isn't a millionaire is an ass.

Why do you think we are upset about this?

I dont blame the city directly, or the DOT who put in the signs... but the vultures they hire for brownie service.

There is reason they hire fat women of color. They have attitudes, little humanity or sympathy, but will take orders.

My best guess is they saw the signs being put in and saw an opportunity to meet the days quota in 30 minutes so they can spend the rest of the shift in McDonalds, or sleeping in their cars.

Speaking of McDonalds, this is what you would call a "McJob." Not the best and brightest of society.

Its a place to store people who otherwise would be on the welfare system. Just like TSA agents and, in the past, token booth clerks.

I filed a compliant with Internal affairs on a cop that did that to me.....long story short she was reprimanded and it put on her record and nobody has ticketed or towed a car in that spot in over 3 years.

So If you all file a complaint with Internal affairs you will get action
