Harlem business owner shoots 2 thugs dead

From the NY Post:

A 72-year-old Harlem business owner turned Bernhard Goetz on four robbers yesterday, pulling a shotgun from beneath his desk and opening fire, killing two and wounding the others, cops said.

The four men barged into Kaplan Bros. Blue Flame Corp., a restaurant-supply company at 523W. 125th St., at 3 p.m.

Inside was the owner, Charles Augusto, Jr., of Irvington in Westchester County, and two employees whom the robbers tried to handcuff.

One of the bandits pulled a 9mm gun and began pistol-whipping a 33-year-old worker.

That prompted Augusto, 20 to 30 feet from the robbery, to pull the 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun and fire three times, cops said. The blasts struck all four men, two of them in the back.

Two men collapsed just outside. One fell in the doorway and was declared dead at the scene. The other, who cops said had prior arrests for robbery and weapons charges, was rushed to St Luke's Hospital, where he died.

The other two robbers also ran, but were busted nearby and hospitalized. Both are expected to live.

This is terrible. After all, guns are bad and should never be possessed by law-abiding people for protection of themselves and their property! This business owner should have just sat there and done nothing while his employees got the shit beaten out of them. He also should have handed over all his money because thugs deserve it more than he does.

I hope Mayor Bloomberg holds an anti-gun press conference in front of this place.

Who ever said that a business owner shouldn't be able to have a shotgun on his premises? That is perfectly legal in NYC and I never heard Bloomberg oppose that. You gun nuts shouldn't try straw man arguments, you look even worse than you do now. Maybe if we had good gun laws in this country, these criminals with prior records wouldn't have been able to get their hands on the guns they had.
Thanks for another silly comment unrelated to the actual story Crapper.

Charles Augusto should be lauded as a hero. Instead he'll be dragged through the mud by the mayor and the NYPD for having the gall to defend himself and his employees. The photo of the cops taking his shotgun as evidence is disheartening as this is a crystal clear case of self-defense.

This man shot a handful or orks who thought they could prey on any of the sheeple in this city. The ones who survived will hopefully know better now and the ones who died aren't around to cause anymore problems. In a sane society the police would be shaking Mr. Augusto's hand, not disarming him.

Just wait until the families of these thugs sue him and come on the news talking about what "good boys" they were.

The Mayor and the Brady Bunch need their heads examined.
This is going to get worse as winter nears and the cops cant stop it.
People have a right to defend themselves with a firearm.
I wonder what denomination these dead banditos were.
The pistol whipping, gang of 4+ has Central America written all over it. Likley some scumb*gs from Washington Heights or Jersey

Kind of reminds me of the dark threats issued by a hack yesterday when Crappyie suggested you write to the Queens newspapers on selling out to Blumturd and not reporting the news.

This is terrible. After all, opinions are bad and should never be possessed by law-abiding people for protection of themselves and their neighbhors! This citizen should have just sat there and done nothing while his community gets the shit beaten out of them. He also should have handed over all his money as taxes because the tweeded and develoopers deserve it more than he does.

I hope Mayor Bloomberg holds a press conference in front of this place.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

Maybe if we toughen the drug laws, people wouldn't buy and sell them, either.

Why is he going after the Revolutionary War buff who has a legal gun from that era? Why are the newspapers reporting that it is unclear if the gun was licensed when you don't need a license for one of these guns, just a permit?

Thanks to Bloomberg.

Central Americans in Harlem? Highly unlikely. Scumbags from Washington Heights? Too far for their comfort. Its more than likely its 4 guys from around the corner.

Drug laws in America are way too harsh and infact all drugs should be legalized and if you choose to do drugs thats your choice.

Do you know how much tax money is being used for court precedings, incarceration of drug addicts all across america. Astronomincal numbers.

Often, the citizen defending him or herself doesn't have the training or experience to successfully do what this man did. Another person might have accidentally shot one of his workers or failed to disable the thieves and gotten everyone killed. This guy seems to have known what he was doing, in which case, more power to him.

At 10:00 PM NY said that the store owner WILL NOT be brought up on charges. I hope he can live with killing/killing the e process of defense two people. In any case two people are dead, two more wounded in a stupid robery for maybe $1,000 divided by four people.... Ridiculous.

Ok, so it's done and they are legal.

Didn't you learn anything from the deaths of those innocent victims that were killed on the Taconic Pkwy by a boozed up pothead of a mother.

There's the question of who will pay for the drugs since most of these slugs will not be able to hold a job.

The Government (taxpayer)? That will be as popular as this healthcare bill they are trying to sell to us.

No, these people will take to thievery and we will be back at square one.

Say it George.

you are an idiot for posting this. and that last paragraph is so naive.

Why am I an idiot for posting this news story? And care to explain what I am naive about?

Crapper, I think he might have been referring to comment posted just above his, by Linda.

Good for him! Maybe these thugs will think twice before they try to rob someone. If the owner was shot dead, there wouldn't be any story, just a funeral. If the thugs were caught, the taxpayers would pay for their legal defense and their room and board for the next 20 years. My hat is off to the business owner. GOOD JOB!

No, it wasn't that because I moderated both comments at the same time.

Thank goodness the gentleman had the intestianal fortitude to use the force necesary to quell the situation. One of his employees was pistol whipped, there was cause for deadly force and the gentleman was justified. I have heard so often from cowards just let them have whatever they are trying too steal. A man has to stand up and be a man, thank you sir for standing.

A very brave and a very skilled man. Remember, guns are only good if you can hit where you aim. If you have one, pick an appropriate type for use and practice on the range regularly, also secure it away from children.

On his interview with NY1 he said he wished he didn't have to shoot them. Two dead, two wounded and a man mentally scarred for the rest of his (not so long) life. Average cost of inmate per year is about $35,000. So the two that are still alive (lets just say they get 10 years) will cost taxpayers $700,000 in the next 10 years. Who wins in this situation? Lose lose situation.

I have no problem spending tax money to keep these hoodlums off the streets. We throw so much money down the toilet on less trivial matters than life and death.

Kudos to the man-Gus. Old school guy who has always worked hrad for his money. A 72 year old working man who defended his employees against 4-21 year old scum----. I hope this sends a message to these young scum that are too lazy to work. Wouldn"t it be great if our state legislature was made up of people like "Gus". No instead we have a bunch of ego, money hungry reps who push for repeal of tough drug laws! Wake up NY. Think for your children.

I hope Gus doesnt lose too much sleep over this. He said last night on the news that 12 years ago his son took his own life with a gun. So he is most certainly going to be a changed man after this. Still, I think he did all of NYC a favor by getting rid of these 4 worthless robbers. Good ridance to bad rubbish.

Should Gus feel too troubled I have two words for him:

Wendy's Massacre

No normal man takes murder lightly, but he probably saved his employees and himself.

If every store owner was wielding a 12 gauge that would do more for crime rates than any police force can do.

crime is down according to bloomberg -_-
