Crescent Street sliver crap

Who thought that a 10-story sliver was smart city planning in a community of 2 and 3-story buildings?

Mighty John Young or Amanda the Manhattan socialite?

Beautiful and magnificent architecture!

The community is ungoing a review of upzoning (we need to give every homeowner the freedom to change their house and to allow planned development - says the Vallone$).

Translation: this.

It is painful to watch the community not have the foggiest idea that they are getting screwed or how to go about this process.

Absolutely painful....

Not a single comment about how they are getting screwed by the upzoning on astorians.com.

But boy oh boy oh boy - Top Tomato, the fruitstand on the Avenue of Saints (Ditmars) closed and that has 60+ commnents and 2000+ views.

How can we say politely dumbf*cks?

You can't say it politely.

The poeple in Astoria/Dutch Kills must be the stupidest people in NYC when it comes to zoning and holding their leadership accountable.

We could let them stew in their juices but its spilling over into other communities.

it only looks bad for now.

in 20 years, you won't even notice it, because it will be surrounded by others like it.

Sliver Building:
A tall building or enlargement on a lot that is 45 feet wide or less, in an R7-2, R7X, R8, R9 or R10 district, is commonly called a sliver building.

This lot is in an R6

Which makes it even worse. Thanks for the Manhattan-centric definition.

Maybe you should be asking why the area was zoned R6 when the majority of buildings are 2 and 3 family homes.

Because the local pols are dispicable and the local population self rightously stupid - every time you try to help them or talk to them they don't want to listen nor do they want to work together.

Sort of explains why public education that is touted on this board would never work.

Ignorant dumb peasants and clueless spineless yuppies is a recipe for a community's suicide.

Bot Top Tomato was a great place. Everyone is going to miss it.

You just don't understand.

Vallone is listening to everyone's concerns and the folks at City Planning are hearing our concerns.

Its not a perfect plan but its the best that can be done. Peter has been working with them for 5 years - and it has the advantage of being the only plan submitted by a city councilman.

If we waited for the community to do something, it would never happen or be far worse.

The comments you are making about our community (and out blog) are uncalled for.

Our politicans fight for us, particularly against the outrage from Con Ed.

Gag.

If these morons want to ruin their neighborhood, that is fine except that it is now spreading to other communities.

Just ask Bayside and the threat from Paulie-boy.

A TINY AREA IS NOT HAVING ANY ZONING CHANGE - JUST A FEW BLOCKS ALL THE WAY UP IN THE CORNER WHERE THE VALLONES AND DEMICOS LIVE.

SURPRISE

You can't, but with blogs its now out there for the whole world to see.
