Mayor Bloomberg has "never understood why we don't let you drink in the park," he recently told a group of community newspapers. "I mean, you go to watch the Philharmonic, you can't have a bottle of wine."
We'll, I think the issue is that, like everything in NYC, the privilege will be abused and their will be a lot of unpleasant drunkeness and public urination, right? So perhaps it's best left where it stands now.
We have way too many laws that, while well intentioned, effect decent people. Why let the behavior of a small percentage that will abuse, ruin it for everyone else. Drinking should be legal; just penalize people for the behavior overdrinking brings with it.
I played up in the Bronx Tuesday night. Everbody had coolers of beer and wine. There was not one single problem in the crowd of over 2000 or so. Everbody cleaned up and put the trash in the bins. That lawn was left spotless I think its its fine in certain situations
Bloomberg has no problem with anything as long as it's something HE LIKE AS WELL. I guarantee you he was talking about wine at "Music in the Park", but the minute someone opens a 40 of Colt45 at a softball game - well that's different. He probably wouldn't have tried to block the federal food stamp increases if the recipients had all vowed to spend it on Salmon 9another Bloomie fav). Has nyone else noticed that this is a "Saturday Mayor" -meaning he only seems to govern for parades and recreational activities, but when it comes to day-to-day living like housing, taxes, and fees - everyone can go to H...
You can NOT draw a comparison between a well organized event such as the Met or Phil concerts, and an "open bottle" assemblage. I worked at the Met Concerts in the Park a couple of times during the 80's (when they still used the Rosner sound system) Then, as now, the crowd was civilized and well mannered...however there were also -alot- of porta-potties to deal with the effluent.
If you allow drinking in the Parks outside of these sorts of events, you will have hooligans pissing and vomiting, getting into fights as the Parks will be considered as places where they can go and be "safe".
the city would go broke the d.o.c. would have major lay offss as well as the courts and police departments. the whole justice system hiniges on minor marijuana possession arrests take that away u take away the huge amounts of money being poured in to the enforcment side of things .
plus you cant patent a plant pharmacuticals would be major p.o.'d
Thanks for helping to point out the inequality of Bloomturd's NYC. You can't allow alcohol at some events and not others because it screams elitism. Classes versus masses is the name of the game, right?
(when they still used the Rosner sound system) I Know Alex Rosner. I had worked at See Factor many years ago. Bob C had had this thing for hiring manly lesbos as shop managers. I had enough one day bailed over to Alex, those Met shows were a dream to work

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap

Bloomberg is truly an a**hole. NO THIRD TERM!!!

According to bloomberg:
Wine, not the cheap stuff, should be legal. Beer and "poor people" alcohol should be criminalized.
Cigars should be untaxable and Cigar bars should be available for the upper class and cigarettes are barbaric and bars cater to these animals
Anything I miss?
This is a man out of touch. Lets have him go through the Central Park for the Puerto Rican Day or St Patricks Day.
People that live in Bermuda do not live in the real world. NYC is not a tax haven for crooks.
Drinking in the parks should be legal.
But, FOR EVERYONE not just when the mayor sees fit.
Then there was blues man Phil with the harmonica. He had a bottle of wine in his coat pocket.
He got hassled for drinking in the park without a blanket.

We had to crack down on public drinking years ago because alcohol can ease inhibitions and greatly increase the threat of violence.
If I were to suggest relaxing the laws, it would be to allow people to drink on their own stoops as was the custom in my youth.
Allowing drinking for the upper classes, but not for the lower is obnoxious. Crack down on all or none.
Why does none of this surprise me.
My question is when are people going to get fed up enough to actually call these people accountable.
I guess Bloomberg wants us drunk and numb so we won't vote.

Here's one thing I agree with Bloomberg. There's nothing wrong in sitting in the park with friends and drinking beer.
Why not legalize doobies as well?
No third term!!!!!!!
So where's the legislation?
What will he say after Election Day?
