What does Helen do all day?

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall also had lots of time missing from her schedule. She had a total of eight events listed over five days and no more than three on any one day. On Aug. 5, she attended Gov. Paterson's signing of a bill about home foreclosures at 10:30 a.m., then went to a National Night Out Against Crime event at 6 p.m. Nothing was listed in between.

BIG BEEPING DEAL

"She could definitely do more with that position," said a Queens democratic insider.

Queens beep spokesman Dan Andrews said internal meetings were not listed on Marshall's schedule and pointed out that the beep had two days off that week. "She was out until 10:30 at least, during National Night Out."

But critics wonder if the whirlwind of ribbon-cutting and cheerleading is worth the tens of millions of taxpayer dollars allotted to the five pols for supplies, chauffeurs, dozens of vaguely described staff slots, and discretionary money. Some hope the upcoming Charter Revision Commission retools their roles or does away with them altogether.

Apparently, among the things she does all day is to cause the Unisphere fountains to be turned on, while simultaneously denying all City services to the Willets Point neighborhood. Great priorities, Helen!

Does she get paid as Queens BP?

If so she should be putting in at least 5-8+ hours a day like the rest of us do on our jobs. If she can't handle that then she should retire and let the job go to someone who is able to do it. Queens is a big place with a lot of issues and needs someone who puts the time in to address these issues. Not just doing the society rounds at her leisure.

I think there should be a referendum to LET THE PEOPLE OF NEW YORK CITY VOTE on whether to eliminate the borough presidents. It seems we have very little say on how our government is run. The same question could be said about whether or not we need a public advocate. The salaries paid to these people could be better spent, especially in this dismal economy.

We have no say in our local government. There are no competive elections. Tonight Supreme Court Judges will be picked by the county machine and nobody notices

Everyone in Queens Borough Hall are lazy good-for-nothing, freeloaders. Time to abolish this waste of government and our taxes. Has anyone ever looked at the multi-level beauracracy that is ruled by Marshall??? She even has her own speech writer!!!! WHAT A WASTE. WE ARE BEING TAKEN FOR A HELL OF A RIDE MY FRIENDS!!!

The last post is proof that most people who frequent this blog do not understand what they read.

Eliminate this Beep office, replaced by a non-paid Queens advocate to counter-balance the Mayor's office on all Queens related issues.

C-mon now...
let's cut the old dim wit some slack.

It must take "hairdo Helen" at least 4 hours to attend to that dead bird's nest that crowns her head!

That's where she holds her daily
intake of real estate bribe money.

In the evening she transfers it
to her posturepedic mattress
for the sweetest dreams ever.

Eventually it floats far away
off shore somewhere...
following in Manes' footsteps
which is SOP at borough hall.
