Lauder makes exception for Bloomie

Mayor Bloomberg geared up to seek a third term after the path to four more years was cleared yesterday when billionaire term-limits advocate Ron Lauder vowed to support a change in the law that would allow Hizzoner to run again, The Post has learned.

In a surprise move, Lauder said in an exclusive interview with The Post that he would back a one-time extension from eight years to 12 years because he feels the city needs Bloomberg to help steer it through these perilous fiscal times.

Lauder's stunning move comes at a time when Bloomberg, according to sources, has told top aides he intends to seek a third term.

MIKE'S SURPRISE '3-DOM' FIGHTER

And the voters still prefer term limits.

Once again, the will of the wealthy will trump the will of the people. Sad, very sad.

Looks like with Bloomberg and Lauder on board for the extension of term limits the quid pro quo approval of the Willets Point plan by council cant be far behind.

This is a problem when people rely on a white knight.

In politics, never never trust a politican.

The people must take this into our own hands!

Don't worry there still be lawsuit against any attempt to extend term limits.

Look how these users bums use the anything to get what they want. What is Bloomberg going to do push out more Americans out of the city by attracting more and more wealthy forigners to pay for his developer friends muilti million dollar co-ops?

Term limits are a violation of the First Amendment.

If voters want to keep Bloomberg in office, they should be allowed to. I'd rather see him lose office in an election, instead of because of term limits.

Anonymous said...

who exactly is going to finance this lawsuit now that Lauder is on board?

Anonymous said...

Good. Let him run for a third term. I know I will not vote for him. I hate bullies. He's a power-monger who wants his own way. To hell with what the people voted for TWICE! I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM. I suggest the people who voted for term limits TWICE do the same.

Anonymous said...

Term limits are not a violation of the first amendment. They were put to a vote twice and the people overwhelmingly wanted them twice.

Anonymous said...

just because something is voted on in a referendum does not make it unconstitutional.

And referendums are not law.

Anonymous said...

Well then, why did we have a referendum? And why wasn't the result challenged in court?

Anonymous said...

the general concept of federal, state and local term limits as constitutional IS being challenged in the courts.

Its a long process.

Do some reading on it.

Queens Crapper said...

So it hasn't been deemed unconstitutional. As I recall, there was an amendment to the constitution adopted back in 1947 that says 2 terms is just fine.

Anonymous said...

I guess the fact that Six state supreme courts have overturned term limits as unconstitutional doesnt matter.

Queens Crapper said...

The U.S. Constitution is not dictated by State courts.

Anonymous said...

Only four state supreme courts have overturned term limits.

Anonymous said...

the only term limited by the US constitution is the presidency based on the 22nd amendment.

All other attempts to limit federal terms has been stricken down

On the state level many states have voted for term limits to their state and local offices only to have their state supreme courts strike it down as unconstitutional

Anonymous said...

you're right. Idaho and Oregon repealed them by Law.

Anonymous said...

Great!

So according to all you loons we can finally get President Bill Clinton back! The whole idea that the President of the US could not run for a third term since 47' was just a mistake. (Whoops!)

I am all for it. If the price we have to pay for getting Bill Clinton back in the White House is letting Bloomberg run again it's well worth it.

He'll lose of course so it's a freebee.

Anonymous said...

no..

The 22nd amendment to the US constitution prohibits presidents from running for more than 2 terms. It does not limit any other terms of office

pay attention.

Anonymous said...

16 state legislatures have term limits. Only 4 were overturned by court decision.

A referendum, ballot question, or plebiscite is a direct vote in which an entire electorate is asked to either accept or reject a particular proposal. This may result in the adoption of a new constitution, a constitutional amendment, a law, the recall of an elected official or simply a specific government policy.

Anonymous said...

if you want more term limits start a movement for a constitutional amendment.

Otherwise every time they are challenged they will be shot down as a violation of freedom of speech and expression.

Anonymous said...

A referendum, ballot question, or plebiscite is

key word in the passage is "MAY result"

It is always non binding.

A I want to do is get rid of these blood suckers who sit in the City Council and Borough President office. A that good for nothing Public Advicate who let her sick daughter in law travel without supervision.

It's very sad that just because some guy rich enough to run a lot of tv ads is going to run, it means the morons in nyc will elect him. His constituency is only very top 5% of the wealthiest in nyc. Just a few guys on the upper west side. If some of the working class fools in NYC would just grow a brain for a second and realize just how expensive and unlivable this city has become under mayor mike then maybe it wouldn't be pre-ordained that if a billionaire runs we must vote for him.

Back in '89 at least Lauder didn't win. Maybe our brains have atrophied since then,

Like a thief in the night, Bloomberg uses the cover of a massive government bail out to make his bid for a 3rd term.

"I am a New Yorker," he said. "I was born and bred in this great city."

Curious statement from Mr. Lauder, considering that in the picture of him in the NY Post article, just behind him, it looks like an Israeli flag to me.

Now, according to flag rules I learned years ago in Boy Scouts, the U.S. flag should be on the right hand side of the speaker, or in this case, right hand side of his desk. Obviously, Lauder either: Has a U.S. flag, and it's placed on the wrong side; or, he has no U.S. flag in his office at all, thus indicating to us where his true loyalties are, despite his being "born and bred in this great city".

But I suppose I should simply "look away", lest anyone accuse me of "anti-Semitism".

Anonymous said...

if his constituency is just the top 5% of the wealthiest on the UWS how come he consistently gets over 70% approval ratings?

Anonymous said...

Thank God Bloomberg will be back. The city won't fall apart now, we can weather the upcoming economic decline, and get back to making progress as soon as possible.

I know this is sad news for the Archie Bunkers of the world, but it is good news for those of us that don't want the city to go back to the way it was during the Dinkins era.

Thank God Bloomberg will be back.

Yes, thank God "sexy" will be back in NYC for another 4 years! Just thinking of that picture of him in those Bermuda shorts and penny loafers gives me heart palpitations!

Awesome news!!! Hahahahaha to all the QueensCrap NIMBYs!!!

1. Who the hell is Ron Lauder and why should we care what he says?

2. As sick as we are of Bloomie, has anyone thought about who would replace him? Weiner? Please, I'll take Bloomie.

I'll take Avella anytime!

In the end nobody will be doomed.

We'll be

NYC is a survivor city.
It's people are real fighters!

But look at the brighter side of things.

If you've already got a good city council member (like Avella) you won't lose him!

As far as the rest of those bastards...they'll be around for you to squeeze their nuts.

More leverage for the voters.

Those pols know if they don't perform they wont get a life pass on their jobs!

Take heart.
We'll all get through this, one way or the other.

And maybe we won't all fall asleep at the wheel next time.

I guess that Evan and his boys
have got to convince
all us "Archie Bunkers"
on "QC" to vote for Bumbling Bloomie once again.

We know full well that you
NEED OUR VOTES... but not a chance!

By insisting on posting here,

I love it!

Yep...that's right...
