First move on term limits extension

G. Oliver Koppell, a member of the New York City Council, vowed on Thursday to introduce legislation “within weeks” that would allow the city’s elected officials to serve three full terms, instead of the current two.

Councilman Will Introduce Term Limits Change

In an interview, the councilman said term limits “cut off people’s careers in politics, which makes no sense.”

“If one looks at members of the City Council,” he said, “some of the most creative served for 20 years. The limits, he added, “rob the public of a choice.”

Mr. Koppell said he would ask the speaker of the Council, Christine C. Quinn, to introduce the legislation first, but said that if she declined, he would proceed on his own.

“I prefer she raise it first,” he said, “but if nobody else advances this soon, I will.”

And here's a surprise: Liu, Comrie support overturning term limits

THIS IS AN ARROGANT BLATANT END RUN AROUND DEMOCRATIC PROCESS BY THE THUGS OF CITY HALL!

Term limits were put in through a public referendum and must be removed by the very same procedure.

ANYTHING ELSE WOULD BE ILLEGAL!

If they try and railroad this through I'm sure some very big legal guns are already poised
and taking aim to shoot this measure down!

THIS AMOUNTS TO NOTHING LESS THAN A GOVERNMENTAL ABUSE OF POWER....
PURE NAZISM IN THE RAW!

Term limits are there for a reason, and NYC residents need to ensure that arrogant City Council members who try to circumvent limits pay for it with a loss of their jobs.

No term limit extensions - whatsoever. Not to anyone.
