Queenscape, part 2

Nothing says Queens like a 9/11 mural sandwiched between a closed store and an ethnic restaurant that is open but looks like it should be closed. This is the scene on Northern Blvd. in Woodside.

Hurry we are losing our Forgotten Queens, a developer may come along a build an expensive glass box here.
This building should be Landmarked, its part of our urban fabric here in queens. And call city planning to down zone the area so as to preserve our rich queens heritage. If any more rich foreigners move into my neighborhood, George Costanza's parents will move to Florida.

Hye idiot, the point was that Queens looks like a slum because of all the tweeded that have been invited to set up shop here and no one seems to care.

Hey "Hye idiot," the point is even before this mysterious evil "tweeded" class arrived in Queens, Queens was not the utopia many of you old timers think it was.

Actually, take it from someone who grew up here: It may not have been perfect, but it was a hell of a lot more liveable than it is now.

The picture was taken last week, so I am not sure how this proves anything about how Queens was before. It certainly shows it needs a good scrubbing now.

That mural needs at least half a dozen more eagle heads.

Most of the areas running along northern boulevard through corona and woodside have been dumps for years. Mostly filled with immigrant families renting out rooms in single family homes. This was happening long before the LIC condos went up, and long before astoria started getting developed. The last time these areas were "better" was when they were farms. It does need a scrubbing, but if a new building were to be built there....you would all compalin that its destroying the area. I know....Lets build an apartment building....rent out the apartments for $500 a month, and have 5 immigrant families move into 1 unit each with 3 kids. Thats really giving the neighborhood a scrubbing.

FYI, that's not on Northern, that's on Broadway just south of Northern.
