Not sure what the reason is for the work stoppage at 86-35 57th Avenue in Elmhurst now. This photo was taken back in February; I passed by the site last week and it looked exactly the same.

This is what happens when the soul of a community is ripped out.
Elmhurst is full of illegal immigrants who dont give two shits about the community and send all their money home, or newly minted 'citizens' who are trying to get out and move up.
When you try to discuss something with one of the locals, you mostly you get a shrug, or a goofy giggle. Try it some time.
Yes, it is Vibrant! and Diverse! and a Great Place for an Investement!
It is also an immigrant slum, a ugly place to live, and a clubhouse dream.
It gives you and idea of what the machine wants for the rest of Queens. Afterall, for decades, they spritlessly drone on and on how it is 'America tomorrow'.

Actually, when I walk through downtown Flushing, or Elmhurst, I think Eminent Domain is not a bad idea.
Bring back slum clearance from the 60s.
