When driving by the houses on his way to the gym, Oddo noticed the steep angle of the driveways being built and decided to alert the DOB to send an inspector. The inspection found that the driveways were indeed too steep at two of the houses, as well as improperly constructed drainage features, curb cuts, and the use of the lower levels as basements instead of cellars. The developer will be fined for the violations. Oddo commented, “With that slope, your rearview mirrors are useless…You wouldn’t be able to see if there are any pedestrians as you’re backing out.”
Developers have ruined Middle Village and a lot of good neigborhoods in Queens, but what should not be forgotton about are the home owners who sell to these guys knowing full well what these sleazy developers will do to the neigborhood and frankly caring less.
The Home owers who allow this to happen and sell to the highest bidder should not be let off the hook....

Yes, but since the preservation community has no public education program (knowing full well what happens when there is a vacuum) and the polticians sell out to developers, what information is available to the homeowner.
They get a steady drumbeat of sell! sell! sell! Weekly calls and mailings from developers, politicans telling them how development is sssooooo important for the boro.
Take a look a the Courier last week - a beaming white middle class couple over some headline about a hot real estate market.
They sure the hell were not buying to move to Flushing, Corona, or Ozone Park.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
