Multi-family homes will be destroyed for mega tower.

LIC Post

Three more century-old homes in Long Island City are slated for demolition.

The multi-family homes are all located on the same block – one at 23-10 45th Ave. and two at 45-03 and 45-07 23rd Street.

The demolitions will clear the way for the construction of a 45-story building near the southeast corner of 23rd Street and 45th Avenue in the heart of Court Square.
Development Site

Permits for the demolitions were filed Nov. 8. A total of seven multi-family homes on the block are in the process of being torn down to make way for the new high-rise.
The addresses of the buildings to be bulldozed extend from 23-10 to 23-16 45th Ave., and 45-03 to 45-09 23rd St.

The new project, however, will not cover the corner two-story building currently at 45-01 23rd St. The developer noted in city filings that attempts to purchase the property and its development rights from the owner were unsuccessful

Development doesn't happen in a vacuum. Those places weren't simply taken over; somebody bought em...and for that to happen, somebody sold 'em. Hopefully the homeowners made bank and will be happy in their larger sub/ex-urban spaces...LIC is gone, and has been, for more than fifteen to twenty years. The remnants of any residential "neighborhood-y-ness" are nothing more than fictions in the minds of people who don't live there. For your mental health, just don't go there. I don't.

That whole area is being torn down. Is someone you know renting in that particular building?

Eventually NYC will look like Hong Kong or many other 3rd world cities.

We're not a city anymore...or even a country. We are an economic zone.

That's it. No culture or history worth preserving. No civic responsibility. It's fucking disgusting.

Hong Kong is in not a third world city.

100% correct. The globalist leadership views countries as economic zones and those in the zones as pure economic units. There is no regard for anything else. Nothing else matters.

LIC had little enough leftover character. Let's see if we can bring it down to zero.

They could have taken a page from Hoboken. Developed but still kept its charm and most of its old architecture. The rents there are astronomical too.

So now they will just have more empty apartments that arent being bought or rented because nobody in the city can afford them. Another luxury tower for the rich only. This is the WORST mayor in history and I dont even understand why people voted for this trash. I definitely went out to vote but it DEFINITELY wasn't for this turd.

Maybe they will leave one "old" LIC building and make a "Tenement Museum" like the one on Orchard Street. Just saying....
