Con Edison will gouge New York residents electric and gas bills for the next three years

Con Edison, the privately owned utility company that theoretically powers our city, has reportedly resolved to raise rates beginning January 1: Under the proposal, electric would go up 13 percent over the next three years, while gas would jump an astounding 25 percent. Hm well, at least you know you're getting solid and uniformly reliable service for all those extra dollars you're paying out; at least you know that this added, unavoidable expenditure will be Worth It in the long run!

Here is a breakdown of the average rate hikes, which would vary somewhat depending on customers' electricity and gas consumption. Most of you would be looking at a roughly 4.2% rise in 2020, followed by a 4.7% increase in 2021, and a 4% bump in your electric bills for 2022. As for gas, the average bill would jump 7.5% in 2020, 8.8% in 2021, and 7.2% in 2022.

Many people are displeased with this scheme, which stands to make already burdensome monthly payments significantly more expensive. AARP has already filed its grievances with the state Public Service Commission, pointing out that, as it stands, "tens of thousands" of customers find themselves unable to pay their utility bills and see their services cut every year.

"We think it’s an unfair rate hike,” AARP lobbyist Bill Ferris told the NY Daily News: “We have a problem in New York State with energy affordability.” With everything affordability, some would say!

Wait till Indian Point closes, and with the moratorium on new pipelines, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Don’t worry will get plenty of energy from wind, solar, and unicorn farts ha ha ha!!

Can the Left in this state get any dumber?

Sssshhhhhh…
Don't tell anyone that this absurd hike is due to Governor Dopey shutting down Indian Point, rejecting a LNG port off of Long Island, not allowing fracking and not allowing pipes carrying gas or oilto cross under our state, but ssssshhhhh…don't tell anyone.

Hey, then again how is that renewable energy policy working out for ya?

How can anyone who lives here get ahead? Rent goes up, tolls go up, mta goes up and yet our roads are a disaster, our courthouses are in terrible shape, our sanitation department is overburdened, our police are corrupt and our schools are overcrowded. Yet wages remain the same and this 15 dollar an hour "minimum wage" is now being eaten up left and right. I can see many people leaving when these hikes go into effect. What's the point to raising minimum wage if everything else is just going to raise too? May as well keep minimum wage at 8.75 an hour because it would make no difference. They shouldnt even call it consolidated energy, they should just call themselves CONS. Pseg is probably going to be the next ones to follow, I wouldnt be surprised. They are all just corrupt con artists

First Con Ed sells its energy to a firm in Westchester then buys it back before you get it at jacked up prices, everyone in Albany is in on it and not a thing you can do but pay it.

How is Con Edison allowed to raise their rates higher than the government cost of living allowance

The smart "Middle Class" (What's Left of It) will vote with their feet and move !

If this isn't bad enough something is in the works to tax landlords on energy efficiency ratings. This to force them into making apartments in small homes when extra space isn't being used for living.

Pool table or playroom tax?

To where? Trump Country? Where things are so bad that the screed he spews is considered a good thing? People are so desperate that they say his policies hurt them but they are still voting for him?

Yea, go ahead. Good luck. As for me, do not grow old outside of NYC. The problem here is the politicians and the public that is keep purposely ignorant of the rights, powers, and duties of a citizen. If the Left can stop wasting time on Trump and start running the country things would right themselves pretty quickly.

We have to all be willing to pay more if we want to be a green, progressive city. We can't build green carbon neutral infrastructure without a lot of extra funding. Since funding this is one of the principles of the Democratic party (who are voted for in an overwhelming majority) in this city, we should be proud to pay more to support our ideals.

I even say we should have higher increases to pay for undocumented residents who already have so many hardships so they can get discounted gas and electric. We need to live up to our progressive ideals we all support, even if that means paying more.

Really ! "police are corrupt" ALL Police ? Who do you call for help ?
Really ! "our schools are overcrowded" Why ? Uncontrolled illegal immigration !
Really ! "sanitation department is overburdened " DOB dose not enforece housing laws!
Really ! "minimum wage" is now being eaten up

Since 1965 American worker wages have been driven down by the flood of immigrants!

Yes, you should move. But not here! We don't need no east coast libs in our neighborhoods. They're already dripping over from Illinois. Same mindset that screwed up their own state, they now carry with them like the plague, to our state. We need a wall!

I thought Con Ed was only in the transmission not generation business after Gingrich deregulated them?

Anonymous said...

I admit, after I got suckered by all the deregulated phone companies,
I let energy deregulation pass me by, but what happened to them?

Con Ed sold off all its generators because it couldn't compete efficiently with new plants.

YES they are corrupt! And no, I dont call them for help, I called these corrupt assholes one time after my car got broken into and after 90 minutes of waiting, THEY NEVER CAME and I had to Flag a cop car down then the next day when I needed the report, they "claimed" there was no police report ever written. I'd rather just carry a knife and defend myself than waiting for these USELESS things to do anything. And yes, what was the point to raising "minimum wage" to 15 an hour If EVERYTHING else was going to raise on top of that? How about you STOP thinking with your ass and use your brain?

And I have PLENTY of other stories of corrupt cops. But yes, the immigration and illegal population is out of control and there is TOO MANY damn people living in NYC anymore. I'm glad I moved out but I still have family who lives there.

Superb idea!!!
You should personally start a movement by taking in the undocumented. Put them up in your home, feed them, support them, clothe them, medicate them, educate them and be responsible for them.
Practice what you preach.

"Superb idea!!!" Yes he/she could marry one !

It is to that point where we will have to start using candles. I have cut down on turning on lights in my house. Most of the time I have 1 energy efficient bulb on. And my bill is still the same. What is the use of not using and turning off lights and conserve. All Con Edison does is keep raising the rates so you are never saving anything.

Anonymous said...

"You are never saving anything" That's what I always thought ! Conserve and they raise the Kilowatt price.

***To where? Trump Country?***

No, you can move to Hillary country. Or continue to live in DNC paradise called NYC.

Actually your wealth and most everybody's wealth, money is being confiscated via @inflation@.
You know the mechanism employed by the banksters to suck real value out of the make believe economy. Was the gallon of milk smaller than the gallon of milk today? Was the burger at MCDonald's smaller? Nah it was actually bigger! So what changed? The amount of money you paying for the same product. When you get a 1%, 2% pay increase - if you lucky - and inflation is at 8% (admitted) or 11% (in reality) how is that a problem caused by immigrants? Dude the American companies are manufacturing everything outside of USA and they have been sending jobs to India, have you ever been there? So excuse me, but what exactly are you talking about?

@Anonymous said... "So excuse me, but what exactly are you talking about?"

For starters how about a 100% total Repeal of the Hart-Cellar Act and a return of Immigration Policy to pre-1965 !

*** For starters how about a 100% total Repeal of the Hart-Cellar Act and a return of Immigration Policy to pre-1965 ! ***

How would that fix inflation and outsourcing? Or the LEGAL importation of workers via:

H-1B (specialty occupation) ...
H-2A (seasonal agricultural workers) ...
H-2B visa (skilled and unskilled workers) ...
H-3 (trainee) ...
H-4 (dependents) ...
L-1 (intra-company transferees) ...
L-2 (dependents) ...

So what exactly are you talking about?

"So what exactly are you talking about ?"

"Unbiased/nonpartisan" truthful research on U.S. Immigration thats what !
I'm not going to debate/educate you here on Queens Crap !

I'm not going to debate/educate you here on Queens Crap !

Start with yourself first.
Nobody disagrees with you, but the reasons for all the prices going up is not illegal immigration.

Anonymous said...

Yes. And if you support Unions, then you understand that employers, including AFL/CIO Union HQs employers, use these H type visas to break independent employee Unions. They work for less $, they won't join unions and they won't speak up, or they'll be sent back to the countries that they came from. These laws are undermining our nation, our rightful laws and our Constitution. Abolish H type visas!

"Immigration Policy to pre-1965". Try pre-1892.
It was the Ellis Island crap that lacked work ethic and needed unions and a New Deal.
It was the Ellis Island offspring that gave us socialist FDR.
We should deport anyone here from Ellis Island.
Our country was built to escape the praetorian casuistry of
the evil empire that slew Jesus and stole his religion.
