New lease on life for Atlas

From the Daily News:

A foreclosed Queens mall where store owners had threatened a mass exodus unless rents were renegotiated has cut or is nearing deals with almost all of them, the tenants' attorney said.

To avert that ghost-town scenario for the Shops at Atlas Park, management is ironing out pacts with 14 of 17 disgruntled stores - mostly clothing outlets and eateries - that had been mulling exits from the Glendale center.

The agreements would keep such draws as Coldstone Creamery and Manor Oktoberfest at the complex. The mall has inked separate leases with a Subway sandwich shop and a Cuban restaurant.

Subway? Cuban restaurant? It appears all the naysayers were right.
Atlas Mall is heading more in the direction of Metro Mall then the original intention of Roosvelt Field.
Its actulaly very depressing.

There is so much potential if they can just attract a few well know store chains and a Jama-Juice....

Awesome! get a couple more realistic stores in there now and eliminate the parking fee and they will be good to go!

Atlas Will never be good to go.
Hemmerdinger opened that joint with the intention to fail so he could build condos. BTW Ognibene is in Hemmerdingers pocket. He recently advocated for building Condos there.

I saw a cool car show there on Tuesday night with the band OTH providing the entertainment. It was the first time that I was at Atlas Park and I can see the potential. Paying for parking was the only downside but the fee was reasonable. It was also sad to find so many shuttered establishments.

Put Walmart there and drop the parking fees. Walmart needs to be in the 5 boros. People want a Walmart. One stop shopping and convenience.

REMEMBER OGNIBENE WANTS CONDOS AT ALTAS..Ognibene is in Hemmerdingers pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subway, no. Its a bit too "Myrtle Ave."

A cuban place can be good, so long as its of the level of that one over in Forest Hills just off Austin St, and not some 99c taco stand or a el pollo loco.

Say no to Walmart

Its not about Condo's its about putting a Walmart there.

If they get a Walmart it will absolutely clog that neighborhood.

The Jackie Robinson will be stopped, both ways with traffic. The streets there CANNOT handle the traffic.

Based on the infrastructure of the area, wal mart is a bad idea.

Make Walmart the anchor store and that mall will be filled everyday. You need a strong store to pull people in.

The only good place there is Oktoberfest..... But that place should be MUCH bigger.

Ever stop and think that a spot just isn't good for development? That's what Atlas Park always felt like. I live a five minute drive away from there and I remember not even knowing it existed until fairly recently.

What kills me most is that this little mall that is off the beaten path charges for parking when the aspired-to Roosevelt Field and the not-so-inspiring Metro Mall have all the free parking in the world. They can keep whatever shops they have, I'll gladly go somewhere else.

The seriously have theee worst stores there. I wish it was go to. Like a gap. I need a black shirt then I would totally run there, but come on. I DO love the Maidenform Outlet. And the bikeshop...And Bobbi's and the movies. Okay but thats it. The rest SUCK!!!!

Is this the same Ognibene that spoke about 1 family larger homes being an overdevelopment issue? As for Manor Octoberfest, the owner is very disrespectful and his manager is a shady character. Almost reminds me of Napolean.

WHEN TOMMY O LOSES AGAINST THAT TRAIN WRECK, MAYBE HE COULD FIND SOME WORK AT A NEW KFC IN ATLAS PARK. HE CAN WALK THERE FROM MV.

I hope things work out. It is a nice place to shop eat and see a movie.

I will take condo's over another Metro Mall any day but I beleive your theory is incorrect. Thats a lot of money to spend just to try and build condo's.
I wonder if you are into conspiracy theory's?

Walmart's treat there workers like shit.

Wake up stupid! We are trying to keep the ghetto people out, not invite them in.

So does your mother.

A Walmart is THE WORST THING they could put there. The streets of Glendale cannot handle the traffic and congestion a Walmart will bring...not to mention the ghetto atmosphere. I agree that the Cuban restaurant should be "upscale" and not a pollo loco type place. There is a reason why my family and I moved to quiet Glendale 5 years ago...it would sadden me to see the neighborhood change just because of some idiot's greed.

Walmart seems to stand for a lot of things that this blog seems to be against. Why do we want a business that takes advantage of its workers to set up shop in our city? Maybe in your neighborhood but stay the hell away from western queens where we still have a few independent stores left and the loss of the rest of them is a tragedy.
