Gas explosion in Flushing

From the NY Post:

A suspected gas blast last night ripped the back wall off these two row homes in Queens. Two people were hurt.

The explosion, at 32-25 Leavitt St. in Flushing, was reported at 7:43 p.m. One person was rushed to New York Hospital's burn center in Manhattan; the other was taken to New York Hospital of Queens. Officials said neither had life-threatening injuries.

Fire officials say a man bleeding propane from a tank may have triggered the blast. A city demolition crew was sent to demolish the home.

Felt the explosion a block away at the CB7 meeting. Pretty scary.

Ackerman "cut the cheese" again?

Two years ago I was talking to some FDNY firefighters who were on an inspection tour of some local restaurants.

One standing by his truck told me that some were improperly storing enough propane gas tanks on their premises to take out a whole block!

Welcome to "vibrant bustling" Flushing!

And did that jolt wake up Marilyn Bitterman from her usual lethargic state?

Perhaps CB#7 pushed their heads further up their asses for safety?

Did "follow the buck" Chuck do a duck and cover dive under the table?

LOL No, but I found myself looking for the emergency exits because it really sounded like something exploded in the building. All the walls shook as well as the glass doors. There had to have been about 20 emergency vehicles race by during the meeting. Kelty went out to find out what happened and he told us a building exploded a block away.

Why would someone be "bleeding gas from a propane tank" anyway. And what is proprane doing used inside city limits when everyone has natural gas lines for their stoves?

We had major deaths in Astoria's Father's Day fire because of improperly stored propane in the basement of General Hardware.

At least 60 people were injured in that fiasco and God knows how many rendered homeless. Don't people learn?

I just assumed that since Toby Stavisky has an office nearby that she just released some of her toxic waste. As an afterthought, that would have been far worse, especially if she was joined by Bovine Shulman.

A) I felt it four blocks away.. real scary because I didn't know what it was at first

B) About an hour later over the fire-scanner the dispatcher said that OEM was reporting earlier in the day that DOB got a complaint about an illegal apartment in the basement... how come the media didn't say a thing about that!

Dear Leroy.
I know the home owner, and he had no apartment in the basement. If you go and do your homework, you will see that someone Anonymously reported an illegal apartment in evey house on that block all on the same day. Go to the DOB web site and see for your self.

And what would a BBQ propane tank in the yard have to do with an illegal apartment?

If you look on the DOB web site, you will see that an inspector went to the house and there was no apartment in the basement.
