Eight stores destroyed in Whitestone inferno

Watch video:

Fire rips through Queens strip mall

Eyewitness News

QUEENS (WABC) -- Several businesses in Queens were destroyed overnight when a fast- moving fire moved through.

The fire took place in Whitestone.

Store owners arrived Sunday to survey the damage, and they were very distraught.
As the sun came out, stores were being boarded up. Eight stores were destroyed.

Firefighters say the fire broke out around 1 a.m. The flames were so hot, it took dozens of firefighters to get it under control.

Included in the destroyed stores were two banks, two restaurants, and a GNC.

All the businesses were closed at the time of the blaze, so there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

I drove by the shopping center earlier. What a shame. Now I'm wondering what's going to replace those stores.

This fire incident sounds very suspicious. Perhaps someone was trying to cash out from the economic tailspin.

This is kinda funny because I work in the shopping center at RS...I'm just glad no one was hurt and hopefully it will not take them long before reopening those stores...every one is saying it started at lolipop diner

At least they won't blame the electrican. It seems like an attack of ethnic lightening. Has Charley the Torch struck again? Or was it an attempt at grandstanding and photo opping by the local councilman gone awry. At least Avella didn't attribute it to the neo-cons and his enemies(sane people). I hope they rebuild, the neighborhood needs a family resturant with parking and a community feel

Someone leave eggroll on stove too long. Just like Northern Blvd. fire last week.

ethnic lightning?

invaders from the third-world flushing?

nope-just white trash as usual.

I've lived in Whitestone my whole life, and for the most part the people here are awesome. However, just like other places this place has its white trash and racist a-holes.
