Obama's illegal alien aunt lives off taxpayers

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Saturday he didn't know his aunt was living in the United States illegally and believes that laws covering the situation should be followed.

The Associated Press found that Obama's aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango, is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama's late father.

Obama says he didn't know aunt's illegal status

In Boston, Lydia Agro, communications director for the Housing Authority, said Onyango had been screened and approved for public housing as an "eligible non-citizen" when she moved in in 2003. She said the authority is not notified of deportation orders and did not know Onyango was related to Obama until two days ago.

Agro said the authority doesn't believe it needs to take any action to remove Onyango from public housing despite the order.

She said that although Onyango entered the system under federal guidelines in a federal development, she now lives in a state-funded development. State law forbids the authority from even asking Onyango about her immigration status. That means the federal deportation order has no bearing on Onyango's eligibility for the state-funded project where she lives, Agro said.

I really don't care about whether the O-man knew or didn't know about this. But can someone explain why tax dollars are being used to house people who are here illegally and why citizenship isn't a requirement for public housing in this country?

Why is a relative of a U.S. Senator living in public housing?

italian girl said...

She's the half-sister of the father that wanted nothing to do with him. How close could they be?

The One preached to us that we are our brothers' keepers.

Well, here's his aunt living off of us with no "keeping" from the Messiah, and there's his half-brother, living in a shack in Kenya on a dollar a month, with - again - no "keeping" from "We are the One".

As long as the Messiah doesn't need to inconvenience himself at all, he's happy that the taxpayer has the opportunity to sanctify him or her self by picking up the tab for all the slackers.

Messiah - Commissar - what's the difference?

It takes a welfare state to support an Obama relative.

And this has to do with Queens, how? Of course, Queens, too, has illegals living in public housing, but there were no stories from Queens to illustrate that point?

How about Charlie Rangel's multiple rent-stabilized apartments right here in NYC?

CntrySigns said...

If Obama gets in this will be increased. Not because of a long forgotten Aunt but because the Democrats running feel that people who work hard for their money should "help out" un-educated, lazy people who either can't or won't support themselves.

Can someone explain to me why the government rejected Onyango's application four years ago? Why was she denied asylum?

Was it because of her African name? Was it because she came from Kenya? Did she have a crime record?

If all she wanted was to live in the freedom and opprtunities that this country provides, why was she rejected?

Answer that, crappy!

Queens Crapper said...

Obviously, it was because she didn't adequately prove that she had been persecuted or feared she would be persecuted in Kenya on account of her race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. Just because you apply for something doesn't mean you automatically get it. Otherwise, Queens would be full of landmarks. :)

It's not harsh it’s not racist. If anyone thinks that we built the most powerful and rich country in the history of the world by giving out free stuff to people who immigrate here then they need to study American History. That is not how it happened. Hard work is how it happened.

Come here by all means and the very best of luck to you. In all sincerity I know that the immigrant community is what made the US great, but WORKING immigrants, NOT welfare ones. If you can’t pay your own way find a charity but don’t tread on me.

No answer because there is no good answer.

Try entering France or Germany illegally, and, then, after that, demanding total public support for all your wants and needs.

The fact that the US is the most attractive and appealing nation on earth since the apple-eating incident, does not impose any obligation on taxpayers to support any freeloading slacker who breaks into our country.

It's unnatural to expect that we should.

By the way, all who oppose welfare for slackers, stay alert for the news today that Obama's illegal alien slacker freeloading aunt is registered and poised to vote. If she is, do you think she's voting for McCain?

Suppressing the vote has long been a cornerstone of the GOP's electoral strategy. Shortly before the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, Paul Weyrich — a principal architect of today's Republican Party — scolded evangelicals who believed in democracy. "Many of our Christians have what I call the 'goo goo' syndrome — good government," said Weyrich, who co-founded Moral Majority with Jerry Falwell. "They want everybody to vote. I don't want everybody to vote. . . . As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

Today, Weyrich's vision has become a national reality. Since 2003, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, at least 2.7 million new voters have had their applications to register rejected. In addition, at least 1.6 million votes were never counted in the 2004 election — and the commission's own data suggests that the real number could be twice as high. To purge registration rolls and discard ballots, partisan election officials used a wide range of pretexts, from "unreadability" to changes in a voter's signature. And this year, thanks to new provisions of the Help America Vote Act, the number of discounted votes could surge even higher.

Passed in 2002, HAVA was hailed by leaders in both parties as a reform designed to avoid a repeat of the 2000 debacle in Florida that threw the presidential election to the U.S. Supreme Court. The measure set standards for voting systems, created an independent commission to oversee elections, and ordered states to provide provisional ballots to voters whose eligibility is challenged at the polls.

But from the start, HAVA was corrupted by the involvement of Republican superlobbyist Jack Abramoff, who worked to cram the bill with favors for his clients. (Both Abramoff and a primary author of HAVA, former Rep. Bob Ney, were imprisoned for their role in the conspiracy.) In practice, many of the "reforms" created by HAVA have actually made it harder for citizens to cast a ballot and have their vote counted. In case after case, Republican election officials at the local and state level have used the rules to give GOP candidates an edge on Election Day by creating new barriers to registration, purging legitimate names from voter rolls, challenging voters at the polls and discarding valid ballots.

To justify this battery of new voting impediments, Republicans cite an alleged upsurge in voting fraud. Indeed, the U.S.-attorney scandal that resulted in the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales began when the White House fired federal prosecutors who resisted political pressure to drum up nonexistent cases of voting fraud against Democrats. "They wanted some splashy pre-election indictments that would scare these alleged hordes of illegal voters away," says David Iglesias, a U.S. attorney for New Mexico who was fired in December 2006. "We took over 100 complaints and investigated for almost two years — but I didn't find one prosecutable case of voter fraud in the entire state of New Mexico."

OK.The "free market"works real well MR fantasy land.
With Bear Stearns, Fannie and Freddie, AIG, the money markets and now this omnibus bailout, well in excess of $1 trillion will be distributed from the poor, workers and middle class to the scum floating on top.
This whole mess gives lie to the free market. The Feds are propping up stock prices, directing buyouts, subsidizing crooks and swindlers who already made a killing off the mortgage bubble.

Worst of all, even before any details have been hashed out, “Wall Street began looking for ways to profit from it,” and its chief financial correspondent writes that the Bush administration wants “Congress to give them a blank check to do whatever they want, whatever the cost, with no one able to watch them closely.”

Government MANIPULATION (via the Federal Reserve) of money, MANIPULATION of credit and lending standards over several decades caused the financial crisis we are now in. NOT the so-called machinations of the free-market. THERE WAS NO FREE MARKET AT WORK.

And what is the proposed remedy? More of the same poison for the sickened economy. More bailouts, cheap money and government guaranteed loans.

It reminds me of the ancient practice of blood-letting. Call a barber to cut open the veins of the sick!

No more bailouts would be a great idea because it promotes little johnny Wall streets great gambles but gives them brand new bank to paly with. There is no government money in the bank. Its all bonds from China and Saudi Arabia, with a little taken out of the social security fund.
What would Ayn Rand expect to happen? On the one hand we have the hot shot executives, on the other hand the schmucks who own stock in these banks. Would Ayn Rand expect that the executives would put aside their ambition, their lust for success, their greed, in order to benefit shareholders who are too dumb to even know what a credit default swap is?

Ayn Rand would watch the Wall Street big boys run roughshod over their shareholders' interests and be applauding them every step of the way. That is how the game is played. If Greenspan didn't think the Wall Street crew would rip off their shareholders for every last penny, then he was not a worthy disciple of Ayn Rand.
